Chugai Pharmabody Research Pte. Ltd. (“CPR”) was established in Singapore as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd (Chugai), a member of Roche group, in January 2012 and started operations on July 2, 2012. Located at Geneo in Singapore, it aims to generate new antibody drugs based on Chugai’s proprietary antibody engineering technologies, such as recycling antibody, sweeping antibody, bispecific antibody, various Fc engineered antibodies, and other new antibody engineering technologies that are under development.

Position – IP Leader in Intellectual Property Unit

CPR is seeking an IP Leader with strong expertise and experience in biotech/pharma patenting work to join our in-house IP team to support our growing R&D and IP activities as we further our vision to create innovative drugs that improve patients’ lives.

Job Scope:

• Prepare patent applications based on invention originating from the company, including conducting prior art search, drafting a claim set and specification, and working collaboratively with outside patent counsels
• Handle global patent prosecution, including working collaboratively with outside patent counsels
• Create patent filing strategy and IP landscape for research projects
• Conduct freedom-to-operate patent searches and analysis for research projects
• Manage patent disputes such as handling an opposition or invalidation trial, or obtaining legal opinion from outside patent counsels concerning research projects
• Provide CPR researchers with patent-related knowledge and training
• Contract reviews on IP-related clauses
• Assist in handling Japanese-language documents
• Other patent-related activities (e.g., IP Due Diligence) as requested

Requirements:

• At least a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant scientific field, preferably, biology or bioscience-related degree, with a minimum of 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in patenting work preferably in the field of antibody, biotechnology or pharmaceutical patents. A PhD in a relevant scientific field is preferred but not necessary.
• Qualification of patent attorney or patent agent in any country is also preferable but not necessary.  

Possess either 2 of the following skills:

• Patent claim and specification drafting

• Patent search

• Patent prosecution or patent examination

IP professional with strong passion in IP protection and medical science for creating and delivering innovative drugs to society which leads to saving patients suffering from unmet medical needs are highly desired. As frequent communication and liaison is expected between both the Singapore and Japan office, you should possess good command of both spoken and written English and Japanese, excellent organizational and communication skills, team player mindset, as well as the ability to multi-task.
