About Truly Curious

Truly Curious is a global, open-access science publication dedicated to sharing the human stories behind world-changing research. We are launching an international initiative connecting elementary students' biggest "how" and "why" science questions directly with top working researchers—and bringing those questions to life across higher-ed campuses through engaging, high-impact short-form media.

Our campus media teams run two primary content formats: Street Science Interviews (asking college students live on camera to explain complex questions in plain terms) and Silent Whiteboard Challenges (holding up a board with a kid’s question written on it). Both formats conclude with a validated expert breakdown directly from our partner researchers.

Role Type: Internship (Semester-Based | 2-5 hrs/week - Opportunities for Additional Hours)

Compensation: Academic Credit Eligible + Stipend. Performance Bonuses Provided.

Location: On-Campus / Remote

While this is a fully remote role open to applicants worldwide, we are heavily in favor of candidates based in Colorado, New York, London, Singapore, Melbourne, or Kenya.

The Opportunity

We are recruiting creative, ambitious college students to form two-person campus media teams (Host + Videographer/Editor) for the current semester.

As part of the Truly Curious Campus Crew, you will produce fast-paced, street-style short-form videos (Reels, TikToks, Shorts) asking college students real science questions submitted by elementary kids. You'll capture spontaneous campus reactions, test adult knowledge, and deliver validated expert answers directly from researchers.

Available Roles (Apply Individually or as a Duo)1. On-Camera Host & Science Communicator

  • Focus: On-camera engagement, interviewing, and narrative delivery.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Host fun street-style interviews on campus in high-traffic areas.
  • Research and break down complex scientific answers into simple, 15-second summaries.
  • Represent the Truly Curious brand with curiosity, warmth, and high energy.
  • Ideal For: Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Theatre, or STEM majors interested in science communication.

2. Short-Form Video Producer & Editor

  • Focus: Production, mobile cinematography, and vertical video editing.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Capture crisp vertical video and clear wireless audio during live campus shoots.
  • Edit 2–3 vertical videos per month (Reels/TikTok style) with engaging captions, fast cuts, and sound design.
  • Ensure final video assets meet Truly Curious brand and visual standards.
  • Ideal For: Film, Digital Media Production, Advertising, Graphic Design, or Content Creation enthusiasts.

What You’ll Get

  • Published Media Credits: Official on-screen credit and bylines tagged on all published videos across Truly Curious global channels.
  • Portfolio Gold: Professional, high-engagement video assets to showcase to future employers in media, journalism, agency, or STEM fields.
  • Production Budget Covered: Full coverage of video giveaway cash ($1 trivia rewards) and specialized mobile mic/accessory gear.
  • Career Endorsements: Official Letter of Recommendation from Truly Curious executive leadership and LinkedIn skills verification upon completion.
  • Academic Credit Support: We will work directly with your university department to fulfill internship requirements for course credit.
  • Performance Bonuses: Cash/gift card incentives for videos that hit key viral milestones.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Access to a smartphone with a high-quality camera (iPhone 12+ or equivalent).
  • Strong interest in science, storytelling, media production, or education.
  • Reliable, creative, and comfortable engaging with people on campus.
