Simpson Spence Young (SSY) is a leading global shipbroking firm with a strong presence across the international maritime and commodities markets.
We are looking for a Broker Support & Data Analyst to join our Dry Cargo – Capesize team in Singapore. This is a dynamic role combining market intelligence, data analytics, research and commercial broker support, working closely with our experienced brokers and global research desk to provide insights that support business and client decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Market Intelligence & Analysis
- Maintain accurate, timely, and commercially relevant tonnage and cargo market lists
- Provide market intelligence and research insights, including daily tracking of Capesize vessel movements (nominations, sailed vessels, etc.) to support brokers and the desk
- Develop and maintain forecasting models for market volumes, trends, and developments in collaboration with the Research Desk
Reporting & Data Governance
- Prepare, review, and validate daily and weekly reports to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and integrity
- Execute data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL); review SQL queries and database structures to ensure data quality and appropriate design across analytical projects
- Continuously enhance reports and dashboards to deliver clear market condition analysis
Commercial Support
- Support ad hoc broker and client requests, including market briefings and presentation materials
- Support brokers during vessel negotiations and fixtures
- Proactively gather market intelligence from news, conferences, and industry contacts to inform commercial decision-making
What We’re Looking For
- Strong analytical and information-processing skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient in SQL and Microsoft Excel.
- Basic knowledge of Python or any coding language will be an advantage.
- Articulate with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Customer-oriented with the ability to understand and respond to commercial needs.
- Able to work independently, manage priorities and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated, proactive and driven, with a strong interest in developing within the shipping and broking environment.
- Knowledge of international trade, commodities or shipping is not essential but will be an advantage.
- A minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience in Commercial Shipping.
- A Diploma or Degree in Maritime Studies or a related discipline.
