Mechanical & Electrical Quantity Surveyor Tasks & Responsibilities:

Cost Estimation:

• Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for mechanical and electrical components of construction projects, in particular factory, data center & office fit-out projects.

• Analyze project specifications and drawings to determine the quantity and type of materials required.

Quantity Takeoff:

• Conduct detailed quantity takeoffs for mechanical and electrical components to support accurate cost assessments.

• Verify and validate quantities against project specifications.

Budget Management:

• Develop and manage budgets for mechanical and electrical aspects of projects.

• Calling quotations from various vendors to gather market pricing of elements.

• Monitor and control costs throughout the project lifecycle to ensure adherence to budget constraints.

Tendering and Procurement:

• Assist in the tendering process by preparing and analyzing tender documents for mechanical and electrical packages.

• Evaluate contractor bids and provide recommendations for awarding contracts.

Contract Administration:

• Administer contracts for mechanical and electrical work, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and conditions.

• Track and manage variations to the contract scope and associated costs.

Risk Management:

• Identify potential risks related to mechanical and electrical aspects of the project and develop mitigation strategies.

• Monitor and assess risks throughout the project and implement necessary adjustments.

Value Engineering:

• Collaborate with engineers and project teams to identify opportunities for value engineering without compromising quality.

• Propose alternative solutions to optimize costs while maintaining project requirements.

Cost Reporting:

• Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts for mechanical and electrical work, providing insights to project stakeholders.

• Communicate effectively with project management on financial status and potential issues.

Documentation and Record Keeping:

• Maintain organized and detailed records of all cost-related documents, contracts, and correspondence.

• Ensure compliance with documentation standards and project requirements.

Collaboration:

• Work closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and constraints.

• Facilitate effective communication between various project teams.

Continuous Learning:

• Stay updated on industry trends, construction technologies, and changes in regulations related to mechanical and electrical systems.

Qualifications required: 

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or Quantity Surveying with MEP experience

• Experience in preparation of cost plans, budgeting, tender, calling quotations from vendors for MEP items (if experience is missing for one of the above items, this is acceptable and requires explanation) 

• Experience in Malaysian market
