Job Description

Responsibilities

1. Role Purpose

The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the technical, documentation and coordination requirements of construction projects from design development through execution and completion.

The role requires a candidate with construction experience and good technical understanding, with particular emphasis on technical submissions, document control, drawing coordination, project correspondence, progress tracking and coordination with consultants, main contractors and internal teams.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Technical Documentation & Submissions

Prepare, coordinate and track technical submissions including:

Material submissions

Method Statements

Risk Assessments and supporting technical documents

Shop drawing submissions

Product data and technical datasheets

Samples and mock-up submissions

Inspection and testing documentation

Maintain submission registers and follow up on outstanding approvals and consultant comments.

Review returned submissions and coordinate revisions with the relevant internal teams.

Ensure only the latest approved drawings and documents are circulated for construction and fabrication.

Assist in preparation of technical proposals, calculations and supporting documentation where required.

B. Drawing & Design Coordination

Review architectural, structural and specialist drawings for coordination and constructability.

Coordinate with BIM/drafting teams on shop drawings, details and as-built drawings.

Identify discrepancies, missing information and interface issues and prepare RFIs where necessary.

Maintain proper records of design changes, consultant instructions and drawing revisions.

Coordinate technical information between the design, production and site teams.

C. Project Coordination & Correspondence

Assist the Project Manager in day-to-day project coordination and follow-up.

Prepare technical correspondence, RFIs, meeting notes and responses to consultant/main contractor comments.

Attend coordination and technical meetings and maintain proper records of discussions and action items.

Follow up with consultants, main contractors, suppliers and subcontractors on outstanding technical matters.

Maintain organised project records and ensure important instructions and approvals are properly documented.

D. Progress & Programme Documentation

Assist in preparing and updating project programmes, schedules and progress reports.

Track shop drawing, material approval, procurement, fabrication and installation status.

Prepare weekly/monthly progress information and supporting records.

Highlight potential delays arising from outstanding approvals, information or coordination issues.

Coordinate required information with procurement, production and site teams according to project milestones.

E. Quality & Inspection Documentation

Assist in preparing Inspection and Test Plans (ITP), inspection forms and quality records.

Coordinate inspection requests and maintain records of approvals.

Track NCRs, defects, consultant comments and rectification status.

Compile QA/QC records, material certificates, test reports and supporting documentation.

Assist in preparation of project completion, handover and close-out documentation.

F. Variation & Commercial Records

Maintain records of design changes, site instructions and additional work.

Identify instructions or revisions that may have cost and/or programme implications and highlight them to the Project Manager and QS.

Assist in compiling drawings, correspondence, photographs and technical records to support variation claims.

Coordinate with the QS on supporting documentation where required.

G. Site & Construction Support

Conduct site visits and inspections as necessary to understand actual conditions and resolve technical matters.

Coordinate technical issues between the site team, consultants and internal engineering team.

Verify that construction requirements are consistent with approved drawings and technical submissions.

Provide documentation and technical support to the site team as required.

3. Requirements

Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline.

Preferably 3–5 years of construction/project engineering experience.

Good understanding of construction drawings, specifications and project documentation.

Experience in preparing and coordinating shop drawings, material submissions, method statements, RFIs and technical submissions.

Good written communication and documentation skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office; AutoCAD knowledge is preferred.

BIM/Revit/Navisworks knowledge will be an advantage.

Familiarity with Singapore construction practices and consultant/main contractor submission procedures is preferred.

Able to organize and manage multiple submissions, deadlines and project requirements concurrently.
