Position Summary

The Assistant Engineer will support both the commercial and operational execution of local minor works and building services maintenance projects. This role bridges technical execution with commercial acumen, handling everything from technical site coordination to end-to-end tendering preparation and cost analysis.

Key Responsibilities

1. Tender Administration & Coordination

• Document Follow-up: Monitor, log, and process incoming tender invitations, ensuring complete compliance with client specifications, submission deadlines, and internal workflows.

• Arrangement & Submission: Coordinate the compilation of all necessary tender deliverables (e.g., technical proposals, method statements, company track records, and statutory forms).

2. Tender Evaluation & Risk Analysis

• Review & Feasibility: Assist project managers in evaluating incoming tender documents to determine scope clarity, project feasibility, and resource requirements.

• Site Inspections: Conduct preliminary site walk-throughs during the tendering phase to assess existing conditions and mitigate potential project execution risks.

3. Price & Cost Assessment

• Quantity Surveying Support: Perform detailed material take-offs and measurements from drawings and site photos.

• Cost Estimation: Obtain and analyze quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to build competitive and accurate cost models for labor, materials, and equipment.

• Profitability Tracking: Help prepare the final commercial bidding strategy to ensure healthy profit margins for the company.

4. Multi-Disciplinary Minor Works Execution

• Site Supervision: Supervise day-to-day site progress for multi-disciplinary Minor Works projects (Class I, II, or III), ensuring alignment with Hong Kong building codes.

• Technical Core Sub-systems:

  • Drainage & Plumbing: Overhaul, repair, and install water supply and drainage networks under Water Supplies Department (WSD) and Buildings Department (BD) standards.

  • Electricity & E&M: Coordinate power distribution alterations, control box replacements, and electrical minor works under EMSD compliance.

  • Air Conditioning : Supervise installation, cleaning, and routine repair of window/split-type air conditioning systems.

  • Safety & Quality Management: Maintain strict adherence to ISO 9001, 14001, and 45001 standards on-site.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Education:

• Higher Diploma or Degree in Building Services Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.

Experience:

• 1–3 years of experience in engineering project coordination or tendering estimation within the Hong Kong building services or maintenance sector. (Fresh graduates with strong internships will be considered).

Technical Knowledge:

• Familiarity with the Hong Kong Minor Works Control System (MWCS).

• Basic understanding of relevant statutory regulations (BD, EMSD, WSD).

Skills:

• Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel (for cost sheets and take-offs).

• Strong detail orientation with numbers and commercial documentation.

Language:

• Fluent in spoken and written Cantonese and English.
