Role Description The Master Student in Geotechnical Engineering role at UMPSA is an on-site position based in Kuantan. The role involves conducting experimental and numerical research on soil foundation engineering and related geotechnical topics under the supervision of academic staff. The student will collect and analyze field and laboratory data, use relevant software tools, prepare technical reports, and contribute to scholarly publications and presentations. Daily activities include attending research meetings, engaging in coursework and seminars, collaborating with peers and industry partners when applicable, and supporting departmental projects. The role also requires maintaining laboratory safety standards and proper documentation of research activities to ensure quality and reproducibility.

Qualifications
  • Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities, particularly for interpreting geotechnical data and complex engineering scenarios.
  • Effective communication skills, including clear written and oral communication for reports, presentations, and collaboration with supervisors and peers.
  • Solid foundation in physics and geotechnical engineering principles to understand soil behavior, material properties, and structural interactions.
  • Research skills, including literature review, experimental design, data collection, and critical evaluation of findings.
  • Programming skills beneficial for data analysis, numerical modeling, and use of geotechnical or scientific software tools.
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, or a closely related field from a recognized institution.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical laboratory equipment, field testing methods, and relevant design codes or standards is an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, manage time effectively, and demonstrate a strong interest in academic research and professional development.
