Company Overview

Standard Maritime Pte Ltd was incorporated in 2001 as a port agency company in Singapore, providing comprehensive support to vessels calling at Singapore for cargo operations, bunkering, surveys and inspections, sale and purchase deliveries, crew changes, ship supplies, de-slopping operations, afloat repairs and dry docking.

As part of our continued growth and diversification, we are looking for driven and commercially minded individuals to join our team and develop our ship chartering and brokerage capabilities.

The Role

We are seeking a Ship Chartering Executive / Shipbroker to develop and manage chartering opportunities across the tanker shipping markets.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing relationships with shipowners, charterers, traders and other industry participants, identifying business opportunities and negotiating chartering transactions from enquiry through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with shipowners, charterers, traders and brokers.
  • Source and develop new chartering opportunities and business leads.
  • Handle cargo and vessel enquiries and identify suitable tonnage.
  • Market vessels and cargoes to relevant counterparties.
  • Negotiate freight rates, charter terms, laycan and other commercial terms.
  • Assist with the negotiation and conclusion of charter party agreements.
  • Monitor market conditions, freight levels, vessel positions and cargo movements.
  • Follow up on enquiries and maintain an active pipeline of potential business.
  • Coordinate with owners, charterers and operations teams to ensure smooth execution of concluded fixtures.
  • Maintain accurate records of fixtures, enquiries, negotiations and market information.
  • Build and expand the company's network and client base.
  • Identify new markets, routes and opportunities to diversify the company's chartering activities.
  • Represent the company professionally in meetings, industry events and client engagements.
  • Contribute to the development and expansion of Standard Maritime's chartering business.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in ship chartering, shipbroking, commercial shipping or a related maritime role is preferred.
  • Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of the shipping market.
  • Good knowledge of vessel types, trading routes, cargoes and chartering terminology.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain long-term business relationships.
  • Proactive, determined and results-oriented personality.
  • Ability to work independently and make commercially sound decisions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple enquiries and negotiations simultaneously.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Candidates with an established network of shipowners, charterers or traders will have an advantage.
