JOB DESCRIPTION - Cloud Engineer – AWS

*Role Overview*

We are looking for an experienced Cloud Engineer to support AWS cloud operations, security remediation, infrastructure patching, Amazon EKS administration, AWS Support engagements, and cloud migration activities. The role will work closely with Cloud Architects, Security, Application, Infrastructure, and AWS Managed Services (AMS) teams to maintain secure, stable, compliant, and efficient AWS environments.

Key Responsibilities

*1. AWS Infrastructure Patching*

• Plan, coordinate, and execute regular OS and infrastructure patching across AWS environments.
• Use AWS Systems Manager and Patch Manager to automate and track patching activities where applicable.
• Coordinate maintenance windows with application and infrastructure teams to minimize business impact.
• Perform pre-patching health checks, backups/snapshots where required, and post-patching validation.
• Troubleshoot patching failures and ensure exceptions are documented and followed up.
• Maintain patch compliance reports and provide regular status updates to stakeholders.
• Support emergency/critical vulnerability patching based on security risk and business priority.

*2. Security Remediation* – Amazon Inspector & AWS Security Findings

• Review and remediate vulnerabilities identified through Amazon Inspector and other AWS security services.
• Analyze CVEs and vulnerability findings, identify affected resources, and determine appropriate remediation actions.
• Coordinate OS, package, library, configuration, and infrastructure remediation with relevant teams.
• Prioritize remediation based on severity, exposure, business criticality, and agreed SLA.
• Validate remediation and maintain evidence for audit and compliance purposes.
• Support remediation activities from AWS Security Hub, GuardDuty, AWS Config, and other security controls.
• Track findings through closure and maintain accurate remediation status and exception records.

*3. Cyber Security Risk Assessment & Compliance*

• Support preparation and maintenance of Cyber Security Risk Assessment (CSRA) documentation.
• Provide technical inputs for infrastructure risks, security controls, vulnerabilities, and mitigation plans.
• Document identified risks, business impact, likelihood, mitigation actions, compensating controls, and residual risk.
• Support security audits, compliance reviews, and evidence collection.
• Maintain security and operational documentation for AWS workloads.
• Work with Security and Risk teams to close assessment actions within agreed timelines.

*4. Amazon EKS Operations & Patching*

• Support EKS cluster patching, Kubernetes version upgrades, and worker node maintenance.
• Perform managed node group updates, AMI updates, and operating system security patching.
• Support upgrades and maintenance of EKS add-ons such as VPC CNI, CoreDNS, and kube-proxy.
• Troubleshoot EKS nodes, pods, deployments, services, networking, and workload issues.
• Support application teams during EKS maintenance and upgrade activities.
• Perform pre- and post-upgrade validation and assist with rollback/recovery activities where required.
• Monitor EKS cluster health, resource utilization, capacity, and operational issues.

*5. AWS Operations & Monitoring*

• Monitor AWS infrastructure and respond to operational alerts and incidents.
• Use Amazon CloudWatch, CloudTrail, AWS Config, and AWS Systems Manager for operational visibility.
• Troubleshoot EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM, S3, load balancers, and other AWS service issues.
• Support incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Perform root cause analysis for recurring infrastructure issues and recommend corrective actions.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational activities using AWS-native tools and scripting.

*6. AWS Support Cases*

• Raise, manage, and follow up on AWS Support cases for infrastructure, service, performance, security, and migration issues.
• Perform initial technical analysis and provide AWS Support with logs, metrics, configurations, and troubleshooting information.
• Coordinate technical actions between AWS Support and internal engineering teams.
• Track cases through resolution and document root cause, recommendations, and final resolution.
• Escalate business-critical issues appropriately and maintain clear stakeholder communication.

*7. AWS AMS Support & Migration Activities*

• Manage AWS Managed Services (AMS) requests efficiently in support of migration and operational activities.
• Raise and track AMS requests for provisioning, changes, patching, security remediation, networking, monitoring, and operational tasks.
• Coordinate migration-related activities between AMS, Cloud Engineering, Architecture, Security, and Application teams.
• Ensure AMS requests contain complete technical information, implementation steps, validation criteria, and rollback plans.
• Monitor request progress, identify delays or dependencies, and drive timely resolution.
• Support migration waves by ensuring infrastructure readiness, security compliance, patching, and post-migration stabilization.
• Identify opportunities to improve AMS engagement processes and reduce operational delays.

*8. Cloud Migration Support*

• Support AWS migration projects from assessment through migration, validation, and stabilization.
• Perform infrastructure readiness checks before migration waves.
• Support migration tools and services such as AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), AWS Database Migration Service (DMS), DataSync, and related AWS services.
• Assist with cutover preparation, validation, troubleshooting, and post-migration support.
• Coordinate with application owners for connectivity, security, performance, and functional validation.
• Maintain migration activity trackers, issue logs, and technical documentation.

*9. Networking & Security Operations*

• Troubleshoot VPC connectivity, route tables, security groups, NACLs, NAT Gateway, Transit Gateway, VPN, and load balancer connectivity.
• Support secure connectivity between AWS, on-premises environments, and other cloud platforms.
• Validate IAM permissions and follow least-privilege principles.
• Support implementation and troubleshooting of AWS security controls and network segmentation.

*10. Automation & Operational Improvement*

• Develop scripts and automation using AWS CLI, PowerShell, Python, or Terraform where appropriate.
• Automate patching, health checks, reporting, remediation tracking, and routine operational tasks.
• Identify repetitive manual processes and recommend opportunities for automation.
• Contribute to operational runbooks, SOPs, and knowledge-base documentation.

*11. Documentation & Reporting*

• Maintain accurate technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, architecture inputs, and operational procedures.
• Prepare patching, vulnerability remediation, EKS, incident, AMS, and migration status reports.
• Maintain change records and evidence for audit and compliance activities.
• Provide clear technical updates to project managers, architects, security teams, and customer stakeholders.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with AWS cloud infrastructure and operations.
• Experience with Amazon EC2, EBS, VPC, IAM, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and AWS Systems Manager.
• Hands-on experience with Amazon Inspector and vulnerability remediation.
• Hands-on experience supporting Amazon EKS and Kubernetes environments.
• Good understanding of AWS networking, security groups, routing, load balancers, and IAM.
• Experience with Linux and Windows Server administration.
• Experience with incident, change, and problem management processes.
• Working knowledge of AWS migration services and migration project support.
• Ability to troubleshoot production cloud environments and coordinate with multiple technical teams.

Preferred Skills & Certifications

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate/Professional.
• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator or equivalent operations experience.
• AWS Certified Security – Specialty is desirable.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) is desirable.
• Working knowledge of Terraform or Infrastructure as Code.
• Experience with ITIL-based service management and managed service environments.

*Experience & Competencies*

• 4–7 years of experience in Cloud/AWS Engineering, Cloud Operations, or Infrastructure Engineering.
• Practical experience supporting enterprise AWS environments and production workloads.
• Experience working with managed service providers such as AWS AMS.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple operational, security, and migration activities simultaneously.
• Proactive approach to identifying risks, improving operational efficiency, and driving issues to closure.

Pay: RM7,000.00 - RM9,000.00 per month
