PACKAGING DEVELOPMENT ROLE

This position sits between product development, design and production.

You will help turn packaging ideas into finished packaging that can be manufactured, used and presented properly. The work involves evaluating materials, working with packaging suppliers, checking samples and making sure final specifications are clear before production begins.

Rather than focusing only on the visual side, you will also need to consider practical matters such as dimensions, durability, production methods, cost and how the packaging will perform during handling and transportation.

What the role will involve

1. Product & Packaging Development

- Work on packaging concepts for new and existing products.

- Explore different structures, materials and finishing options.

- Review existing packaging and suggest practical improvements.

- Prepare measurements, specifications and other information needed for development.

- Help assess whether proposed packaging formats are suitable for production and everyday use.

2. Samples and Supplier Coordination

- Contact packaging suppliers regarding samples, materials, quotations and production information.

- Arrange prototypes and sample submissions for review.

- Examine samples for construction, dimensions, appearance, usability and overall quality.

- Record feedback and communicate required changes to suppliers.

- Follow up on revised samples until the required specifications are achieved.

3. Artwork and Production Checks

- Review packaging artwork and product information before production.

- Check dimensions, labels, printing details and finishing requirements.

- Coordinate with relevant internal parties when packaging information changes.

- Assist with pre-production checks and approval processes.

- Keep track of approved versions to reduce errors during production.

4. Cost and Project Coordination

- Obtain and compare packaging quotations from suppliers.

- Assist with evaluating packaging options from both cost and quality perspectives.

- Keep development schedules and outstanding actions organised.

- Follow up on supplier timelines and sample deadlines.

- Maintain records of specifications, quotations, samples and revisions.

5. Improvements

- Look for opportunities to reduce unnecessary packaging materials.

- Explore practical alternatives that may improve packaging efficiency.

- Assist with initiatives involving recyclable or more sustainable packaging.

- Support changes to packaging when product requirements or production conditions change.

- Help investigate packaging quality issues and coordinate corrective actions.

You should be comfortable working with both creative and technical information. One part of the job may involve discussing a new packaging concept, while another may require checking a measurement, reviewing a supplier sample or resolving a production detail.

What we need from you

- Diploma or Degree in Packaging, Product Development, Industrial Design, Manufacturing, Materials, Engineering or a related discipline.

- Relevant experience in packaging development, product development or a comparable role.

- Understanding of packaging materials, printing and common production processes.

- Experience communicating with suppliers and reviewing physical samples.

- Able to interpret dimensions, specifications and technical information accurately.

- Good written and spoken English.

- Strong attention to detail and a structured approach to project work.

- Comfortable using Excel, Microsoft Office and other standard workplace applications.

- Good coordination skills and the ability to manage several development tasks at once.

- Able to communicate clearly with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Experience working with food and beverage, tea, FMCG, lifestyle or other consumer products will be useful.

Knowledge of sustainable materials, packaging artwork, print finishing, structural packaging or packaging cost control would be an advantage.

Pay: $4,260.00 - $5,120.00 per month
