Civil & Structural Engineering Manager
- Johor, Malaysia
- 2 Years Contract
Responsible for managing and providing civil and structural engineering support across renewable energy projects from design development and procurement through construction, completion and handover. The role ensures engineering quality, technical compliance, constructability and timely delivery of civil and structural works.
Key Responsibilities
1. Civil & Structural Engineering Management
- Lead and review civil and structural design works for renewable energy projects, including earthworks, ESCP, piling and foundations, roads, drainage, geotechnical works, fencing, buildings, structural steel and substation/transformer foundations.
- Coordinate civil and structural interfaces with electrical, mechanical and other disciplines.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, project specifications and authority requirements.
2. Construction & Site Oversight
- Oversee civil and structural construction activities, ensuring works are executed in accordance with IFC drawings, specifications, method statements, ITPs and approved quality requirements.
- Review shop drawings, method statements, material submissions and other technical documents.
- Monitor site progress and resolve construction-related technical issues.
3. Project & Stakeholder Coordination
- Work closely with EPC contractors, design consultants, Owner’s Engineers and internal project teams.
- Manage civil and structural deliverables, interfaces, technical queries and project milestones.
- Ensure engineering and construction activities are delivered within agreed cost, quality and schedule requirements.
4. Technical Due Diligence & Risk Assessment
- Support technical due diligence and engineering assessments for renewable energy projects.
- Identify civil and structural risks, technical challenges, constructability issues and potential opportunities.
- Provide technical recommendations and mitigation measures to support project development and execution.
5. Value Engineering & Technical Optimisation
- Review proposed engineering solutions and identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimisation.
- Assess cost-benefit implications while maintaining safety, quality, reliability and technical performance.
6. Quality, HSE & Compliance
- Ensure civil and structural works comply with QA/QC requirements, applicable standards and statutory regulations.
- Support inspections, testing, commissioning and project close-out activities.
- Promote safe construction practices, particularly for earthworks, excavation, piling, lifting and structural works.
7. Authority & Technical Coordination
- Liaise with relevant authorities, utilities, consultants and contractors on technical and statutory matters.
- Support authority submissions, approvals and resolution of technical requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related discipline.
- Experience in renewable energy, power, infrastructure, EPC or engineering consultancy projects.
- Strong experience in design review, construction supervision and engineering coordination.
- Experience in utility-scale solar PV, BESS or other renewable energy projects is highly advantageous.
- Experience with technical due diligence, risk assessment and value engineering is an advantage.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong civil and structural engineering knowledge.
- Good understanding of earthworks, foundations, piling, drainage, roads, geotechnical works and structural steel.
- Knowledge of local authority approval processes and relevant engineering standards.
- Strong project management, contractor and consultant management skills.
- Good commercial awareness, problem-solving and risk management capabilities.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
Working Conditions
- Project and site-based role with regular interaction with contractors, consultants and project teams.
- Frequent travel to project sites may be required.
- Extended working hours may occasionally be required to meet project deadlines.
- Strict compliance with HSE and environmental requirements is required.
