Job Description

Responsibilities

Role Overview
The Group Pharmacist is responsible for ensuring safe, effective, and cost‑efficient pharmaceutical services across all hospitals in the group (each with <100 beds) and for managing the group’s centralized drug procurement process. The role combines clinical pharmacy leadership with supply chain and procurement oversight

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Pharmacy Leadership

  • Review and interpret physician orders, ensuring appropriateness, legality, and safety of prescriptions
  • Monitor patient medication therapy, detect and resolve drug–drug, drug–food, and drug–disease interactions
  • Provide drug information and education to clinicians, nurses, and patients
  • Oversee dispensing, compounding, and storage of medicines in line with hospital policies and regulatory standards
  • Conduct medication reconciliation at admission/discharge and participate in treatment plan development careers
  • Train and supervise pharmacy staff (assistants, interns) in all units

2. Group Drug Procurement & Supply Chain

  • Manage centralized procurement of medicines for all hospitals in the group, negotiating with suppliers to achieve cost savings and ensure supply continuity
  • Maintain accurate inventory records, stock levels, and expiry monitoring across sites
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies, tender processes, and regulatory requirements for controlled substances
  • Prepare and review monthly reports on drug usage, stock, and procurement costs for group management
  • Evaluate and recommend new drug introductions and rationalization of formularies to optimize cost and clinical value

3. Quality, Compliance & Policy

  • Implement and monitor quality and safety procedures in all pharmacy units
  • Ensure adherence to national pharmacy laws, hospital policies, and accreditation standards
  • Lead or participate in group pharmacy committees and quality improvement initiatives
  • Maintain confidentiality and data integrity in all reporting and procurement activities

4. Operational & Strategic Support

  • Coordinate pharmacy services across multiple small hospitals, ensuring consistency in standards and service delivery
  • Provide operational support to site pharmacists and resolve inter‑hospital pharmacy issues
  • Stay updated on advances in pharmaceutical science, clinical guidelines, and procurement practices

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor of Pharmacy or equivalent, with valid licensure
  • Experience: Proven hospital pharmacy experience, preferably in a multi‑site or group setting, with procurement or supply chain exposure
  • Skills: Strong clinical knowledge in pharmacotherapy, drug interactions, and patient care; excellent communication and leadership skills;
  • Other: ability to manage budgets and supplier relationships; analytical skills for procurement and inventory data

Pay: RM9,000.00 - RM12,000.00 per month
