The Job
The Finance Controller is responsible for driving financial performance, strengthening cost management frameworks, and enhancing financial governance across the organization. This role plays a critical business partnering function, working closely with operations and commercial teams to improve profitability, implement robust cost accounting practices, and ensure accurate, timely, and actionable financial reporting within a Sage ERP environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic financial advisory to business units and operational teams, focusing on cost optimization, breakeven achievement, and sustainable profitability based on financial analysis and performance trends.
- Lead and enhance cost accounting functions, including detailed analysis of cost drivers, standard costing, variance analysis, and margin improvement initiatives.
- Develop and implement end-to-end job costing frameworks, covering quotation, budgeting, production, and finished goods, ensuring accurate tracking of actual versus estimated costs and profitability.
- Oversee and continuously improve financial data integrity, accounting structures, and coding frameworks to ensure accurate cost allocation and meaningful management reporting.
- Act as the subject matter expert for Sage ERP, including:
- Designing and enforcing financial control mechanisms within the system.
- Implementing multi-level approval workflows for Purchase Orders (POs), including BOM-based costing validation.
- Ensuring system-based validation of Gross Profit Margins (GPM) prior to transaction approvals.
- Establishing automated alerts, exception reporting, and variance controls for financial transactions.
- Partner with operations, procurement, and sales teams to embed cost discipline, improve pricing accuracy, and enhance financial visibility across the value chain.
- Lead the restructuring and optimization of the Finance function, including defining roles, strengthening capabilities, and improving accountability and efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, processes, and internal controls, leveraging Sage ERP functionalities to support scalability and governance.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, corporate policies, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; professional qualification (CA, CPA, ACCA) preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, preferably in manufacturing, engineering, or project-based environments.
- Strong expertise in cost accounting, including standard costing, BOM costing, job costing, and variance analysis.
- Hands-on experience with SAGE ERP, including system configuration, workflow implementation, and financial controls.
- Proven experience in business partnering and driving measurable financial and operational improvements.
