Job Description

Responsibilities

Position : Senior Electrical & Automation Engineer

Industry : Oil & Gas

Location : Singapore (frequent shipyard attendance)

Contract Duration : 6 months

Scope of Works:

  • Lead and manage electrical and automation activities related to the DP system, Power Management System (PMS) and Vessel Management System (VMS) upgrades throughout the drydock project.
  • Manage DP system upgrade and readiness activities, ensuring the vessel's DP systems are prepared for testing, commissioning and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with Siemens and Kongsberg on system upgrades, technical requirements, engineering activities, troubleshooting and implementation.
  • Lead activities related to PMS/VMS system upgrades and obsolescence management, including identifying technical risks, replacement requirements and upgrade strategies.
  • Manage actions related to blackout prevention and recovery, including technical reviews, risk mitigation and implementation of corrective measures.
  • Coordinate and review electrical protection and coordination studies, ensuring appropriate protection settings and system selectivity.
  • Review technical documentation, electrical drawings, system architecture, protection studies, vendor documents and engineering deliverables.
  • Coordinate with OEMs, shipyard teams, electrical contractors and other project stakeholders to ensure technical activities are executed according to project requirements.
  • Plan and coordinate Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) and associated inspection and testing activities.
  • Lead electrical and automation commissioning activities, including system integration, functional testing, troubleshooting and performance verification.
  • Monitor DP, PMS and VMS upgrade progress and ensure key technical milestones are achieved in line with the overall drydock schedule.
  • Manage technical issues, defects and system deficiencies, coordinating with OEMs and contractors to ensure timely resolution.
  • Support DP readiness activities, including preparation for testing, commissioning and relevant verification/acceptance activities.
  • Coordinate Class attendance, inspections and approvals related to electrical, automation, DP and power management systems.
  • Identify technical risks associated with system obsolescence, upgrades, integration and commissioning, and develop appropriate mitigation actions.
  • Ensure all electrical and automation works comply with approved specifications, procedures, drawings, OEM recommendations and applicable marine/offshore standards.
  • Maintain proper records of technical reviews, testing, commissioning, defects, modifications and system upgrade activities.
  • Provide regular technical progress updates and support project reporting, documentation and final closeout activities.


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 8–10 years of relevant experience in electrical, automation, control or marine engineering within offshore, marine, shipyard, O&G or heavy industrial environments.
  • Proven experience working on DP3 vessels is highly preferred.
  • Strong experience with Power Management Systems (PMS), Vessel Management Systems (VMS) and electrical automation systems.
  • Hands-on experience with DP system upgrades, DP readiness, testing and commissioning.
  • Experience managing or coordinating PMS/VMS obsolescence and upgrade projects is highly advantageous.
  • Experience with Kongsberg DP systems and Siemens electrical/automation systems is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical protection and coordination studies, including protection settings, selectivity and system reliability.
  • Experience planning and coordinating FAT, SAT, commissioning and system integration activities.
  • Experience coordinating OEMs, shipyards, contractors, Class and other technical stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of blackout prevention, blackout recovery and power system reliability for offshore/marine vessels.
  • Ability to review and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, control system architecture and technical documentation.
  • Proven experience in technical troubleshooting, defect resolution and commissioning management.
  • Familiarity with marine/offshore electrical, automation and classification requirements.
  • Strong project coordination, technical leadership and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to manage multiple technical activities in a fast-paced shipyard environment.
  • Willingness and ability to attend the Singapore shipyard frequently throughout the contract period.
