Network Engineer – Data Centre

Location: Johor Bahru, Malaysia

Employment: 12-Month Renewable Contract

Job Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Network Engineer to support network operations and infrastructure activities within a data centre environment in Johor Bahru.

This role requires a combination of network configuration/troubleshooting and physical network infrastructure work. The successful candidate must be comfortable working hands-on with switches, fibre/copper cabling, patch panels, SFP/transceivers and other network equipment within a data centre.

Key Responsibilities

• Configure, troubleshoot and support Layer 2 / Layer 3 network infrastructure.
• Support switches and routers, including VLAN, trunking, STP, LAG/LACP, IP addressing and subnetting.
• Troubleshoot network connectivity and identify issues across both the logical and physical network layers.
• Perform hands-on fibre and copper patching between switches, servers, racks and patch panels.
• Install, replace and troubleshoot SFP/SFP+ transceivers and network connectivity.
• Perform cable tracing, labelling, documentation and physical connectivity verification.
• Support network equipment installation, rack-and-stack and network cabling activities.
• Assist with network changes, migration, testing and validation.
• Perform basic routing and gateway troubleshooting, including understanding of OSPF and HSRP/VRRP.
• Troubleshoot fibre connectivity and work with relevant fibre/network testing tools where required.
• Maintain network diagrams, port mappings, patching records and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with network, data centre and remote technical teams during incidents and planned activities.
• Follow data centre operational procedures, change-management processes and safety requirements.

Requirements

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on networking experience preferred.
• Practical experience supporting enterprise or data centre networks.
• Good knowledge of TCP/IP, subnetting, VLAN, trunking, STP and L2/L3 troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with network switches, preferably Cisco, Huawei, Juniper, H3C or similar.
• Hands-on fibre/copper network patching experience is strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with patch panels, SFP/SFP+, fibre Tx/Rx, cable tracing and labelling.
• Experience with fibre troubleshooting tools such as OTDR, VFL or optical power meter would be advantageous.
• CCNA, JNCIA, HCIA or relevant networking/fibre certification is advantageous.
• Comfortable performing physical data centre work in addition to network configuration and troubleshooting.
• Willing to work on-site in Johor Bahru and support after-hours activities when required.
• Good troubleshooting, communication and documentation skills.

This is a hands-on Data Centre Network Engineer position. It is not purely a NOC/remote network monitoring role.
