1. Drawing and Modeling:

• Creating detailed 2D and 3D models of steel structures using CAD software like AutoCAD and Tekla Structures.
• Preparing construction drawings, including plans, elevations, sections, and details.
• Generating fabrication drawings and material lists from the models.
• Revising and updating drawings based on design changes and feedback.
• Ensuring drawings are accurate, clear, and adhere to relevant standards and codes.

2. Collaboration and Communication:

• Collaborating with engineers, architects, project managers, and other stakeholders.
• Participating in design and construction meetings to discuss project requirements and progress.
• Communicating with fabricators and contractors to ensure proper understanding and implementation of the designs.

3. Technical and Administrative Tasks:

• Reviewing and analyzing project specifications, requirements, and relevant documents.
• Assisting in the preparation of project documentation, such as material lists and specifications.
• Calculating dimensions, weight limitations, and material requirements.
• Ensuring drawings comply with company policies, practices, and relevant standards.
• May also involve mentoring and training other drafting staff.

4. Industry Knowledge and Skills:

• Proficiency in using CAD software, including AutoCAD and Tekla Structures.
• Knowledge of structural engineering principles and construction practices.
• Understanding of industry standards and best practices for steel structure design and fabrication.
• Familiarity with relevant building codes and regulations.
• May require experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling) software.

In essence, a steel structure drafter is a key member of the project team, responsible for translating design concepts into detailed, buildable drawings and ensuring the successful construction of steel structures
