Job Summary
The Scrub Nurse is responsible for providing safe and effective perioperative nursing care, assisting the surgical team during procedures, and ensuring that all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly prepared and available.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare the operating theatre, surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before procedures.
• Perform appropriate scrub and gowning procedures and maintain strict aseptic technique.
• Assist the surgeon and surgical team during procedures by providing the required instruments, sutures, and other surgical supplies.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team throughout the procedure.
• Maintain accurate instrument, swab, needle, and equipment counts before, during, and after surgery.
• Ensure proper handling, identification, and care of surgical specimens.
• Maintain a sterile field and promptly identify and report any breach of aseptic technique.
• Assist with preparation and transfer of patients to and from the operating theatre.
• Ensure surgical instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, decontaminated, and sent for sterilisation after procedures.
• Check the availability and condition of surgical equipment and report any malfunction or shortage.
• Ensure adequate stock of surgical supplies, consumables, and implants where applicable.
• Comply with infection prevention and control policies and operating theatre protocols.
• Complete all required nursing documentation and surgical records accurately.
• Assist with emergency procedures when required.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and professional nursing standards.
• Work closely with surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth and safe surgical procedures.
• Participate in quality improvement, audits, training, and continuing professional development activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Nurse Manager or management.

Requirements:-

• Registered Nurse with a valid Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
• Diploma / Degree in Nursing from a recognised institution.
• At lease 2 years Previous experience as a Scrub Nurse / Operating Theatre Nurse is highly preferred.
• Good knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile technique, infection control, and surgical instruments.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Able to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Able to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays when required.
• Responsible, attentive, organised, and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
