Job Description

Responsibilities

A. Electrical Engineering & Technical Responsibilities

1. Provide electrical engineering support for company projects.

2. Review project drawings, specifications, scope of work and contract requirements.

3. Review electrical layouts, cable routes, cable schedules and relevant technical drawings.

4. Prepare or review electrical engineering calculations where required.

5. Review Single Line Diagrams (SLD), cable sizing and electrical protection requirements.

6. Provide technical solutions for underground electrical utility installations.

7. Review proposed cable routes and ensure appropriate clearance from existing utilities.

8. Ensure electrical works comply with approved design and technical specifications.

9. Identify technical risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.

10. Provide technical advice to Project Managers, Site Engineers, Supervisors and subcontractors.

11. Assist in resolving technical problems encountered during project execution.

12. Review design changes and assess their technical implications.

13. Assist in value engineering and cost-effective technical solutions.

3. UNDERGROUND POWER CABLE INSTALLATION

The Electrical Engineer shall:

1. Plan and coordinate underground power cable installation activities.

2. Review cable routes, trench/duct arrangements and installation methodology.

3. Verify cable specifications, sizes, voltage ratings and installation requirements.

4. Coordinate cable installation with HDD, civil and utility teams.

5. Monitor cable pulling and laying activities.

6. Ensure minimum bending radius and pulling tension requirements are observed.

7. Ensure cable protection requirements are properly implemented.

8. Monitor cable jointing and termination works where applicable.

9. Ensure cable identification and tagging are properly carried out.

10. Verify cable installation depth and route against approved requirements.

11. Coordinate with utility owners and relevant authorities.

12. Monitor reinstatement and protection of completed electrical works.

13. Ensure electrical installation records are properly maintained.

4. HDD & UNDERGROUND UTILITY COORDINATION

The Electrical Engineer shall:

1. Coordinate electrical requirements with HDD Engineers and HDD Supervisors.

2. Review proposed HDD alignment for electrical cable/conduit installation.

3. Confirm cable/duct requirements before HDD works commence.

4. Coordinate HDD crossing requirements with electrical installation requirements.

5. Review proposed entry and exit pit arrangements.

6. Ensure appropriate separation between electrical and other underground utilities.

7. Coordinate with Utility Detection/Locator teams before excavation or drilling.

8. Monitor installation of electrical ducts/conduits through HDD.

9. Verify mandrel testing and duct acceptance where applicable.

10. Coordinate cable installation after completion of HDD works.

11. Identify potential conflicts between existing utilities and proposed electrical routes.

12. Assist in resolving HDD-related electrical technical issues.

13. Ensure completed underground routes are properly recorded for as-built documentation.

5. SITE SUPERVISION & PROJECT EXECUTION

1. Supervise electrical works at project sites.

2. Conduct regular inspections of electrical installation activities.

3. Ensure works are carried out according to approved drawings.

4. Monitor subcontractors and electrical workers.

5. Verify manpower, equipment and materials required for electrical works.

6. Monitor daily progress against the project programme.

7. Identify site constraints and recommend solutions.

8. Coordinate electrical works with civil, HDD and telecommunications activities.

9. Attend daily/weekly site coordination meetings.

10. Prepare site technical reports where required.

11. Monitor quality of workmanship.

12. Ensure defects are identified and rectified promptly.

13. Escalate major technical or project issues to the Project Manager.

6. TESTING & COMMISSIONING

The Electrical Engineer shall be responsible for coordinating and supervising applicable electrical testing activities.

Responsibilities include:

1. Prepare testing and commissioning requirements.

2. Coordinate electrical testing with clients, consultants and utility owners.

3. Arrange appropriate test equipment and competent personnel.

4. Witness electrical testing where required.

5. Review cable test results.

6. Coordinate insulation resistance testing.

7. Coordinate continuity testing.

8. Coordinate sheath/integrity testing where applicable.

9. Coordinate cable identification and phasing verification.

10. Investigate failed or abnormal test results.

11. Arrange rectification and retesting.

12. Prepare testing and commissioning reports.

13. Ensure all testing documentation is completed before handover.

7. ELECTRICAL DESIGN & DRAWING CONTROL

1. Review electrical drawings before construction.

2. Ensure latest approved drawings are available at site.

3. Review SLDs and electrical layouts.

4. Review cable routes and duct arrangements.

5. Review cable schedules.

6. Review electrical details and construction drawings.

7. Coordinate drawing changes with consultants/client.

8. Ensure obsolete drawings are removed from site.

9. Coordinate preparation of red-line drawings.

10. Ensure final as-built drawings accurately reflect actual installation.

8. SUBCONTRACTOR MANAGEMENT

1. Coordinate electrical subcontractors.

2. Review subcontractors' method statements.

3. Review subcontractors' work programmes.

4. Monitor subcontractor workmanship.

5. Ensure subcontractors comply with approved drawings and specifications.

6. Monitor manpower and equipment deployment.

7. Verify subcontractor work completion.

8. Identify non-compliance and issue corrective action requirements.

9. Verify testing and commissioning conducted by subcontractors.

10. Provide technical input for subcontractor performance evaluation.

6. QUALITY MANAGEMENT

Responsibilities include:

1. Implement project quality requirements.

2. Conduct electrical inspection and quality checks.

3. Ensure Inspection & Test Plans (ITP) are followed.

4. Raise NCRs for non-compliant electrical works where required.

5. Monitor corrective and preventive actions.

6. Verify rectification works.

7. Maintain inspection records.

8. Maintain testing records.

9. Support internal and external audits.

10. Ensure project documentation is complete and traceable.

11. Promote continuous improvement in electrical installation quality.

7. HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT

The Electrical Engineer shall:

1. Ensure electrical works are performed safely.

2. Identify electrical hazards before work commencement.

3. Participate in HIRARC preparation.

4. Ensure electrical isolation procedures are followed.

5. Ensure Lock-Out/Tag-Out requirements are followed where applicable.

6. Ensure workers use appropriate PPE.

7. Monitor safe working practices at site.

8. Report unsafe conditions.

9. Report electrical incidents and near misses.

10. Participate in accident/incident investigations.

11. Ensure electrical works comply with applicable safety requirements.

12. Stop or escalate unsafe work where there is significant risk.

13. Support HSE initiatives and toolbox meetings.

8. PROJECT SCHEDULE CONTROL

1. Assist the Project Manager in preparing electrical work schedules.

2. Monitor electrical activities against project milestones.

3. Identify potential delays.

4. Recommend recovery actions.

5. Coordinate electrical activities with HDD and civil works.

6. Monitor subcontractor progress.

7. Provide daily/weekly progress information.

8. Highlight resource constraints.

9. Ensure electrical works are completed according to agreed programme.

10. Support preparation of progress reports.

9. COST CONTROL & VARIATION WORKS

1. Monitor electrical material usage.

2. Assist in preparing electrical quantity estimates.

3. Verify completed electrical quantities.

4. Assist QS/Contract Department in technical verification of claims.

5. Identify potential variation works.

6. Prepare technical justification for variations.

7. Provide technical input for Variation Orders.

8. Assist in evaluating alternative solutions to reduce project cost.

9. Minimise electrical material wastage.

10. Monitor rework and its impact on project cost.

10. CLIENT / CONSULTANT / AUTHORITY COORDINATION

1. Attend technical meetings with clients and consultants.

2. Respond to technical queries.

3. Prepare technical submissions.

4. Coordinate inspections with clients/consultants.

5. Liaise with utility owners where required.

6. Support authority inspections and approvals.

7. Provide technical clarification on site.

8. Maintain records of technical instructions.

9. Coordinate rectification of client comments.

10. Ensure client requirements are properly communicated to site teams.

11. TROUBLESHOOTING & TECHNICAL PROBLEM SOLVING

The Electrical Engineer shall act as the first-line technical support for electrical problems at project sites.

This includes:

· Cable installation problems

· Cable damage

· Failed electrical testing

· Cable route conflicts

· Underground utility conflicts

· Electrical equipment faults

· Power supply problems

· Installation defects

· Jointing/termination issues

· Earthing problems

· Protection system issues

· Technical non-conformities

The Engineer shall investigate the problem, identify the root cause, recommend corrective action and monitor rectification.

12. PROJECT DOCUMENTATION & HANDOVER

1. Maintain electrical project records.

2. Maintain approved drawings.

3. Maintain inspection records.

4. Maintain testing reports.

5. Maintain material approval records.

6. Maintain site inspection reports.

7. Prepare electrical completion reports.

8. Coordinate as-built drawings.

9. Prepare handover documentation.

10. Ensure outstanding defects are closed.

11. Support final inspection.

12. Ensure all required technical documents are submitted before project completion.

13. CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

1. Identify opportunities to improve electrical installation methods.

2. Recommend improvements to cable installation procedures.

3. Develop standard checklists.

4. Analyse recurring electrical problems.

5. Implement lessons learned.

6. Improve productivity and reduce rework.

7. Support adoption of new electrical technologies.

8. Improve site documentation and reporting.

9. Support digitalisation of engineering records.

10. Share technical knowledge with Project Engineers and Site Supervisors.

Pay: RM3,500.00 - RM5,000.00 per month
