Responsibilities
Roles & Responsibilities
We are seeking an IoT and Automation Engineer to connect, monitor and automate manufacturing equipment across semiconductor fabs and back-end factories. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and deploying edge, sensor and control systems on production equipment, and scaling them from pilot tools to fleetwide roll-outs — integration, control logic, data acquisition, and field reliability.
About Innowave Tech Singapore
Innowave Tech is an Artificial Intelligence (AI) company offering solutions for the Semiconductor and Advanced Manufacturing industry. Utilizing deep industrial domain knowledge, proven experience, and innovation, we provide expert AI solutions andsystems to address various industry pain points.
Why Join Us
1. Put your systems on the production floors of leading semiconductor manufacturers — real equipment, real fleets, real impact
2. Join a small team that values initiative, ownership, and clear communication.
Your Role and Impact
As our IoT and Automation Engineer, you will bridge the factory floor and our AI platform. Much of the equipment in semiconductor manufacturing was never designed to share data or be controlled remotely. You will connect these tools non-intrusively — acquiring data from equipment interfaces, screens, controllers, logs and sensors — and automate them through control logic, remote operation and factory-host integration, without modifying the equipment itself.
You will work closely with hardware engineers on edge devices and sensors, with Data Science and Software teams to make sure the data you collect is reliable enough to train and run AI models, and with delivery teams and customer equipment engineers on installation and acceptance. Deployments range from a handful of tools to fleets of 100+across multiple sites, so you will turn one-off installations into a safe, repeatable, documented process.
What You’ll Do
1. Design, install and commission IoT and automation systems — edge devices, sensors, gateways, controllers and industrial networks — on manufacturing equipment, on-site and in cleanroom environments.
2. Develop and test control logic (PLC/HMI) and automation sequences that integrate with existing production equipment.
3. Integrate equipment with factory systems — video/screen capture, RS232/RS485, Modbus, OPC UA, TCP/UDP, MQTT and SECS/GEM to the CIM host/MES.
4. Configure and monitor data acquisition pipelines with the Data Science team, ensuring data quality for analytics and AI models.
5. Diagnose and resolve hardware, connectivity and performance issues; feed field findings back into system design.
6. Build test and acceptance procedures (throughput, long-duration stability, UAT/SAT) and document designs, installation guides and support procedures for fleet scale.
What We’re Looking For
* Educational Background: Minimum Poly or Bachelor Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
* Technical skills:
** Must-haves:
1. 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, industrial IoT, or embedded systems, including on-site deployment.
2. PLC programming and control logic (e.g. Siemens, Mitsubishi, Omron, Rockwell), with exposure to SCADA/HMI systems.
3. Hands-on experience with industrial communication: RS232/RS485, Modbus, OPC UA, MQTT, TCP/UDP and industrial Ethernet.
4.Experience integrating sensors, actuators and edge devices with production equipment.
5. Linux-based systems and edge computers (e.g. Raspberry Pi CM4, industrial PCs), with basic network security awareness.
6. Python and/or C/C++ for automation, integration and tooling; familiarity with APIs and data pipelines.
7. Ability to read schematics and electrical drawings, and use bench tools (multimeter, oscilloscope, logic analyser) to diagnose faults.
8. Comfortable working on-site in production environments and travelling regionally, following safety and cleanroom protocols.
** Nice-to-haves:
• SECS/GEM (SEMI E5/E30/E37) or experience integrating semiconductor equipment with CIM/MES.
• MCU firmware development (ARM Cortex-M class), video capture, KVM or USB HID technologies.
• Motion control, robotics or pneumatics in equipment automation.
• Data collection and preprocessing for AI/ML, or working alongside data science teams.
• OCR / computer vision on edge devices, remote device management, or OTA firmware updates.
• PCB design (e.g. EasyEDA, KiCad, Altium), product certification (CE, EMC) or machine safety standards.
• Background in semiconductor fabs, OSATs, electronics or high-tech manufacturing.
* Soft Skills:
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional technical and non-technical teams, including customer engineers.
• Excellent problem-solving and debugging abilities.
• Ability to balance engineering tradeoffs.
