Job Purpose
To lead and support automation engineering initiatives by managing automation projects, improving system reliability and performance, and driving continuous improvement through new technologies and innovative solutions. The role will also provide technical guidance and coaching to the Production Technical team to ensure effective operation and maintenance of automation systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate automation projects, operations and maintenance activities to ensure reliable and efficient automation systems.
- Manage automation projects from planning and design through vendor coordination, installation, testing, commissioning, validation and implementation.
- Monitor system performance and drive improvements in productivity, quality, safety, equipment reliability and downtime reduction.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis, predictive maintenance, machine optimisation and the adoption of new automation technologies.
- Provide technical guidance, training and coaching to the Production Technical team on the operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of automation systems.
- Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including control-system drawings, PLC programmes, operating procedures, technical reports and maintenance instructions.
- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, vendors and other stakeholders to identify issues and implement effective automation solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Relevant experience in automation engineering, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with sensors, servo motors, induction motors and pneumatic control systems.
- Knowledge of sprockets, chains, bearings, shafts and other mechanical drive components will be an advantage.
- Experience in electrical architecture and conceptual design, including cost analysis and evaluation of design options.
- Basic knowledge of PLC programming/control systems, preferably Omron or equivalent.
- Good understanding of analogue and digital circuit principles.
- Strong problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to lead projects, coordinate with cross-functional teams and provide technical guidance to junior team members.
