About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Procurement Engineer to manage sourcing, supplier development, procurement operations, and supplier performance for mechanical components, precision parts, and related materials.
This position requires a strong combination of procurement expertise and mechanical engineering knowledge, with hands-on understanding of machining processes, engineering drawings, GD&T, and supplier capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, qualify, and onboard new suppliers to expand and diversify the supplier base.
- Manage supplier performance, including on-time delivery, quality, cost, and responsiveness.
- Source and optimize procurement of mechanical components, precision parts, raw materials, and optical components.
- Evaluate, select, and develop suppliers based on technical, quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, symbols, and GD&T requirements.
- Assess supplier manufacturing capabilities and conduct supplier audits and capability assessments.
- Understand and evaluate machining processes, including milling and turning.
- Coordinate supplier import procedures, shipping documentation, and delivery schedules.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with internal SOPs, quality standards, and audit requirements.
- Monitor and control material and component costs.
- Establish and implement supplier Kanban and Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) arrangements.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and other internal teams to ensure procurement requirements are met.
- Support supplier development and corrective actions related to quality, delivery, and compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or above in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Optoelectronics, or a related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of procurement or sourcing experience, preferably in manufacturing, industrial equipment, precision machining, or hardware-related industries.
- Strong understanding of procurement operations and supplier management.
- Strong ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, symbols, and GD&T.
- Practical knowledge of milling and turning processes and equipment.
- Knowledge of metal surface treatment processes.
- Understanding of machining processes and basic CNC programming concepts.
- Experience conducting supplier audits, capability assessments, and supplier development.
- Good supplier network in machining, metal and plastic components, precision parts, raw materials, or related hardware industries is highly preferred.
- Familiarity with MRP and ERP systems.
- Strong coordination, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Preferred Background
Candidates with experience in precision machining, CNC manufacturing, industrial equipment, automation, robotics, electronics hardware, optomechanical products, semiconductor equipment, automotive components, or other engineering/manufacturing environments are highly encouraged to apply.
