Integrated Logistics Systems (ILS) Technical Writer

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Integrated Logistics Systems (ILS) Technical Writer to develop, maintain, and manage technical documentation supporting complex engineering systems and products throughout their lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, logistics, maintenance, training, and program management teams to produce clear, accurate, and compliant technical publications that support operation, maintenance, sustainment, and training activities.

The role requires strong technical writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex technical information into user-friendly documentation for operators, maintainers, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Documentation Development

• Develop, edit, and maintain technical publications including:
• Operation Manuals
• Maintenance Manuals
• Repair Procedures
• Illustrated Parts Catalogues (IPC)
• Technical Handbooks
• Logistics Support Analysis (LSA) Reports
• Training Materials
• Installation and Configuration Guides
• Technical Bulletins and Service Instructions

Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)

• Support Integrated Logistics Support activities throughout system development and sustainment phases.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material (BOMs), maintenance concepts, and design documentation to create accurate logistics documentation.
• Ensure technical publications align with supportability, maintainability, reliability, and operational requirements.

Stakeholder Collaboration

• Interface with systems engineers, hardware engineers, software developers, logisticians, trainers, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to gather technical information.
• Participate in design reviews, technical reviews, and logistics supportability reviews.
• Coordinate document reviews, technical approvals, and baseline releases.

Documentation Management

• Maintain document configurations and revisions in accordance with organizational quality management and configuration management processes.
• Ensure documentation complies with applicable industry, military, defense, aerospace, or customer standards.
• Manage document libraries, templates, publication records, and version-control systems.

Quality Assurance

• Verify technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, formatting, and traceability of documentation.
• Conduct document validation and verification activities with engineering teams and end users.
• Support audits and customer reviews relating to technical publications and logistics documentation.

Requirements

Education

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in:
• Engineering
• Technical Communications
• Information Systems
• Aerospace Engineering
• Mechanical Engineering
• Electrical Engineering
• Logistics Engineering
• Or related disciplines

Experience

• 3 to 8 years of experience in technical writing, technical publications, logistics support, or engineering documentation.
• Experience supporting defense, aerospace, military, transportation, manufacturing, or complex systems programs is advantageous.
• Experience preparing maintenance manuals, operational manuals, or logistics support documentation is preferred.

Technical Skills

• Excellent technical writing and editing skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, system architectures, and technical specifications.
• Familiarity with:
• Integrated Logistics Support (ILS)
• Logistics Support Analysis (LSA)
• Reliability, Availability, Maintainability (RAM)
• Configuration Management (CM)

Tools Knowledge

Experience with one or more of the following:

• Microsoft Office Suite
• Adobe Acrobat Professional

• MadCap Flare
• Arbortext Editor
• Adobe FrameMaker
• XML/SGML authoring tools
• Content Management Systems (CMS)
• Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems

Preferred Knowledge

• S1000D technical publication standards.
• ASD/AIA specifications.
• Defence, military, aerospace, maritime, or unmanned systems documentation standards.
• Technical publication development lifecycle and configuration control processes.
