AI Automation Engineer

Join DigitAI as our first engineering hire and build the systems the other companies in our ecosystem run on. We are looking for an AI Automation Engineer to design, ship and own the AI agents, automations and internal tools that replace manual work across those companies, and then turn the best of them into products other businesses pay to use. You will report directly to the CEO.

The role in short:

This is a build role, and you are the one building it.

There is no engineering team above you to inherit patterns from and no legacy system to maintain. You will pick up a defined stack, a queue of real problems across finance, marketing, business development and web, and direct daily access to the CEO to decide what gets built and in what order.

We care about speed more than most places say they do. Not hours logged, and not shortcuts. What we mean is that the distance between a decision and a shipped thing should be days, not quarters. There is no committee, no approval chain, and no quarterly planning cycle standing between you and production. You will get an answer the same day and ship the same week, and the standard for quality does not move to make that possible. Working in focused, short cycles is how it gets done, not something we sacrifice to get there.

Your first year is about shipping automations that people actually use, proving which of them are good enough to lease externally, and leaving behind documentation and operational discipline good enough that a second engineer can join without archaeology.

If you want a seat where the architecture is settled and the job is to add features to it, this is not that role. If you have wanted to design an AI-first system properly, from the data layer to the agent layer to the dashboard, and be accountable for whether it works, it is.

As our AI Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for:

1) Building and shipping AI agents and automations.

• Build agents and multi-step automations that replace manual work across finance, marketing, business development and web.
• Wire third-party APIs and large language models into workflows that run in production, not in a demonstration.
• Ship in weeks, not quarters. Get something real in front of a real user early, then improve it against what they actually do with it.
• Work directly with the CEO, who has built and run multiple award-winning companies across several industries over 17 years. One decision maker, no committee. Your job includes challenging the brief where the brief is wrong, and you will get a straight answer either way, quickly.

2) Productising what works.

• Take internal tools that have proven themselves and turn them into something that can be leased to other businesses.
• Build for a second user from the start: configuration, tenancy, onboarding and support paths, not a one-off script with your name on it.

3) Owning what you build, end to end.

• Design it, ship it, deploy it, monitor it, and keep it running.
• Work across a Next.js, Tailwind, Supabase and Vercel stack, with Python for data, numerical work, integrations and scraping.
• Build reliable scheduled and multi-step workflows that fail loudly rather than silently.

4) Reliability, evaluation and documentation.

• Know whether your systems are producing correct output, and be able to prove it. Evaluating non-deterministic systems is part of the job, not an afterthought.
• Carry the standards our ecosystem already runs on: audit logs, soft deletes, and no single-person deploy path. These are not negotiable for anything touching money or leased to a client.
• Write documentation another engineer can follow. This is a deliverable of the role, not a hope.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years building and shipping production software. Not prototypes, not coursework.
• Strong in both TypeScript and Python. This one is not negotiable, because the work spans a JavaScript application layer and a Python data and automation layer.
• You have built something with large language models that goes beyond a single prompt and response: an agent, a multi-step workflow, something that uses tools or makes decisions. And you can tell us how you knew it was actually working.
• Comfortable with Postgres or Supabase.
• You have shipped things people used, and you can show them.
• You move fast without being careless, and you can tell the difference between the two.
• You reason from first principles, defend your choices with logic, and change your mind when the evidence changes.
• You write documentation other people can follow.

What this role is not.

We are not hiring for model training, fine-tuning or deep learning research. No PyTorch or TensorFlow required. If that is the work you want, this seat will disappoint you, and we would rather say so here than at the offer stage.

Extra credits if you:

• Have done browser automation and scraping, particularly with Playwright.
• Have used workflow, queue or durable execution tooling.
• Have productised or leased software you built yourself.
• Have front-end polish, particularly with Tailwind.
• Have worked on finance systems or data pipelines.

• You will be working directly with our CEO, who will be personally involved in mentoring and guiding you. For this role that access is daily, not quarterly, and it covers the business side as much as the technical. Ask anyone who has worked closely with the CEO, from any industry, profession or level of seniority, and you will hear the same thing: the learning curve is steep, and it does not flatten.
• You will be given real responsibility and real autonomy from day one, and you will own what you build rather than take tickets from someone else.
• A pace that will not suit everyone. We would rather ship, watch it fail somewhere, and fix it in the same week than spend a quarter making sure it cannot.
• A significant budget for experimentation, tooling and learning. You will not be asked to itemise it, but you will be asked to make the case for it, and a good case gets an answer the same day.
• A results-linked bonus tied to what you ship, whether it gets adopted, and what it earns.
• A fast growth path. Scope and band expand quickly for the right person, and the second engineer will be hired underneath what you have built.

Being honest about how we work: this is the first engineering hire in a fast-moving company. We move quickly, we work hard, and there will be times when the work happens at unusual hours. We would rather tell you that now than have you discover it in month two.

Salary:

RM9,000 to RM12,000 per month; we set the level by what you can demonstrate, not by years served.

Location:

Fully on site. We are currently located in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur, and will be moving to Pavilion Damansara Heights Corporate Tower shortly.
