About the role
Pine Hills International School is seeking an experienced and compassionate Special Needs Teacher to join our Early Childhood Education team. This is a contract position based in Kuala Lumpur, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young learners with diverse needs. As a Special Needs Teacher, you will play a vital role in creating an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive, developing individualised support strategies and working collaboratively with our teaching staff to ensure all students receive the specialist attention they require.
What you'll be doing
Assessing and identifying the individual learning needs, strengths and challenges of early childhood students with special needs
Developing and implementing personalised education plans (PEPs) and individualised education programmes (IEPs) tailored to each child's specific requirements
Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with developmental delays, learning difficulties and other special needs
Collaborating with mainstream classroom teachers to adapt curriculum materials and teaching strategies that promote inclusion
Monitoring student progress regularly and adjusting intervention strategies based on assessment data and observations
Communicating effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's development, progress and any concerns
Working with external specialists, therapists and educational psychologists to coordinate support services
Maintaining detailed records of student progress, assessments and interventions in accordance with school policies
Creating a safe, nurturing and supportive classroom environment that encourages confidence and independence
Participating in professional development and staying current with best practices in special education
What we're looking for
Recognised teaching qualification in Special Education or Early Childhood Education, or an equivalent professional certification
A minimum of 3 years' experience working with young children with special needs in an educational setting
Sound knowledge of child development and understanding of various learning difficulties and developmental delays common in early childhood
Expertise in creating and implementing individualised learning programmes and intervention strategies
Strong observational and assessment skills with the ability to identify learning needs and measure progress effectively
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, parents, therapists and school leadership
Patience, empathy and a genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
Experience with assistive technology and adaptive resources is desirable
Familiarity with international school curricula or early childhood frameworks such as IB, Cambridge or similar is an advantage
Fluency in English; knowledge of additional languages is beneficial
