Responsibilities
About the role
Provide advisory services and support to Business Units and Management and their teams in planning and strategizing project development covering land matters, pre-development to post delivery to purchasers, negotiations on acquisitions, disposals, mergers, joint ventures, project management and other project development activities such as leases, tenancies and service agreements.
Key responsibilities
Provide advisory services and support to Business Units and Management and their teams in planning and strategizing project development covering land matters, pre-development to post delivery to purchasers, negotiations on acquisitions, disposals, mergers, joint ventures, project management and other project development activities such as leases, tenancies and service agreements.
Research and sourcing legal solutions to overcome issues and / or implement new innovative ideas for projects of the Business Unit or Setia Group.
Review, drafting and / or amending legal documentation following identification of key legal and commercial issues, provide interpretation of relevant statutes, guidelines and rulings to facilitate decision making by Management and / or Business Unit to successfully conclude the transactions and project exercises in line with the strategic goals and objectives of Setia Group.
Liaising, coordinating and working closely with external solicitors, consultants, advisers, Business Units and Group Support Division to implement objectives / goals for timely completion of transactions and / or project exercises successfully including monitor these project related works, where necessary.
Identify and resolve legal issues that will affect or affects the transactions and projects, including provide solutions to manage adverse impact that may lead to litigation matters or involves Setia Group. Providing advice to safeguard the Business Units and Setia Group’s interests against suits.
Monitor developments in relevant law, regulations and interpretations and evaluate practices and processes with respect to compliance issues and recommend changes where required.
Support Business Units in carrying out operational functions and in developing new business structures to meet growing business need.
Any other duties as may be instructed from time to time.
Requirements:
Minimum 15 years of post-qualification legal experience, preferably with substantial exposure to property development, real estate, corporate transactions, and commercial law.
Experience in leading legal teams and managing complex, high-value transactions.
Strategic thinking and commercial acumen.
Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
Excellent legal drafting and advisory capabilities.
Leadership and people management skills.
Strong project management and problem-solving abilities
Ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives
