Role Description The Culinary Lecturer (Pastry) will deliver high-quality teaching in pastry arts, including planning, preparing, and conducting lectures, demonstrations, and practical classes aligned with programme outcomes and industry standards. The role involves developing and updating pastry curricula and learning materials, assessing student performance, providing constructive feedback, and supervising practical assessments and examinations. The lecturer will mentor and advise students on academic and career development, contribute to programme enhancement, and participate in departmental meetings, quality assurance activities, and academic committees. In addition, the role may include engagement in scholarly activities or industry-based projects to keep course content current and relevant. This is a full-time, on-site position based at Sunway University in Subang Jaya.

Qualifications

  • Strong professional expertise in pastry arts, including classical and contemporary techniques, recipe development, and kitchen operations.
  • Proven teaching, training, or facilitation skills, with the ability to design engaging lessons, practical demonstrations, and assessments for diverse learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to provide clear instructions, constructive feedback, and supportive student guidance.
  • Solid understanding of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen health and safety regulations, with commitment to best practice in teaching environments.
  • Master degree in Hospitality/Culinary/Food, or a closely related field; a postgraduate degree or teaching certification is an advantage.
  • Relevant industry experience in pastry kitchens, bakeries, hotels, or culinary institutions; prior academic or vocational teaching experience is highly beneficial.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within an international academic team, contribute to curriculum development, and participate in programme review and quality assurance.
  • Willingness to engage in continuous professional development and, where appropriate, scholarly or industry-related activities that enhance teaching and learning.
