Job Description

Responsibilities

Job Summary 

As a Social Worker at New Hope Community Services Limited, you will be an integral part of our mission to bring change into the lives of the displaced and disadvantaged in the community. The Social Worker works collaboratively with our dedicated cross-functional teams, community partners, and stakeholders to be a Beacon of New Hope to the displaced and disadvantaged in the community.

Key Responsibilities    

Social Work

  • Conduct the admission interviews for the referred Authorised Occupier(s) seeking admission to JSS-OR Flat.
  • Conduct matching of Authorised Occupier(s), new as well as existing, using an appropriate approach to allocate them to the same Flat.
  • Mediate disputes between the Authorised Occupiers and work with the Client Engagement team to facilitate residents to move to another bed space if needed.
  • Counsel Authorised Occupiers who donot abide by the terms and conditions for residing in the JSS-OR Flats.
  • Facilitate life-skill programmes, support groups, or other related community programmes with community partners.
  • To partner with the Client Engagementteam to conduct Authorised Occupiers’ bed space visits to ensure Authorised Occupiers abide with the terms and conditions.
  • To partner with the Client Engagement team to collect Authorised Occupiers’ monthly rentals and to follow up on late rental payments.
  • Maintain and update Authorised Occupiers records, especially employment and if they are known to community partners.
  • Refer Authorised Occupiers to relevant external agencies and partners as necessary, including but not limited to the Ministry of Social and Family Development’s Social Service Office (SSO), Community Development Councils (CDC), Family Service Centres (FSC), Workforce Singapore (WSG), and/or community partners such as those in the SG Cares Community Network.
  • Refer Authorised Occupiers to New Hope CSL’s Employment services team and Programmes in Kampung Siglap if relevant.
  • The role of the Managing Agent does not include casework intervention but does include working closely with the assisting agencies / partners to help the Authorised Occupiers build stability and self-reliance.
  • Work with other social service agencies and community partners.

Regular Reports

  • Submit regular reports to the management in accordance with HDB and organisation reports.
  • Submit reports to management and other government agencies as required.

Others

  • Participate in activities of New Hope CSL (e.g. Fundraising, team building, etc)
  • Support other services that New Hope CSL provides e.g. Family shelter, Individual Adults, HOPE Scheme, Children & Youth, Kampung Siglap Lifeskills Training and Retreat Centre…etc
  • Any other related duties in New Hope CSL as assigned by Reporting Officer.

  • Reports to Programme Lead and Director of Social Work

Competency Requirements 

Core Competencies  

  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective communication with residents, team, community partners, and stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Excellent team player with strong leadership and responsibility skills.
  • Adaptability: Strong team player who is resourceful, adaptable, and able to perform multitasks under a given timeline.
  • Collaboration: Willing to work with the homeless and destitute. Able to handle shelter residents politely yet firmly.
  • Understands the principles of engaging and working with vulnerable families and individuals.
  • Case management and casework knowledge and skills.
  • Risk assessment and risk management.
  • Good report writing skills.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently.

Technical Competencies  

  • Proficiency in IT Systems and Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).  

Education and Experience 

  • Degree in Social Work from an accredited institution  

  • Accredited as Registered Social Worker with SASW  

  • At least 2 years of relevant working experience in similar sectors
