THE ROLE
We’re seeking an experienced Freelance Brand & Campaign Designer to support the development of brand identities, creative concepts, key visuals and campaign design systems across a range of industries and platforms.
Depending on the assignment, you may be engaged to develop a new brand identity, evolve an existing visual system, create a campaign direction, or translate an approved concept into a cohesive suite of brand and campaign assets.
You’ll work from strategic and creative briefs, collaborating with the Creative Lead, Strategists, Copywriters and Project Managers to turn ideas into clear, distinctive and commercially effective design.
You should have strong visual craft, sound conceptual thinking and the ability to manage your work independently from initial exploration through to final delivery.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Brand Identity
- Develop brand identities and visual systems across logos, typography, colour, graphic language, imagery and supporting brand elements.
- Translate brand strategy and positioning into a clear and distinctive visual direction.
- Build cohesive identity systems that can be applied consistently across different touchpoints.
- Develop or contribute to brand guidelines, toolkits and practical usage examples.
- Evolve existing identities without losing their core brand recognition.
Campaign Concepts + Key Visuals
- Interpret strategic and creative briefs to develop relevant campaign ideas and visual directions.
- Conduct visual research and prepare moodboards, references or design territories where required.
- Develop key visuals that communicate the campaign message clearly and effectively.
- Explore multiple creative routes and explain the thinking behind each direction.
- Work closely with Copywriters and Creative Leads to ensure the visual and verbal ideas support one another.
- Refine selected directions based on feedback while maintaining the strength of the original concept.
Campaign Systems
- Extend approved concepts into flexible design systems for digital, social, print, presentation and environmental applications.
- Establish clear rules for composition, typography, imagery, graphic elements and content hierarchy.
- Consider how a campaign will work across different formats and channels from the beginning of the design process.
- Create master layouts, templates or reference applications that rollout designers can use consistently.
- Maintain visual continuity across multiple campaign phases, messages and deliverables.|
Production + Collaboration
- Manage assigned work from creative development through to final delivery.
- Present creative thinking clearly and respond constructively to feedback.
- Prepare accurate, production-ready files and assets according to the required specifications.
- Maintain organised working files, clear version control and properly structured project folders.
- Provide source files, packaged artwork and relevant design guidance for handover where required.
- Collaborate closely with the Creative Lead, Strategists, Copywriters, Designers and Project Manager.
- Communicate progress clearly and flag concerns relating to scope, timing, assets or creative direction early.
- Balance creative ambition with the practical requirements of budget, timeline, format and production.
SKILLS + COMPETENCIES
Technical Skills
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign.
- Comfortable working in Figma where required for digital brand and campaign applications.
- Good understanding of design requirements across print, digital, social and presentation formats.
- Able to prepare organised, accurate and production-ready artwork.
- Familiar with AI-assisted research, ideation, image generation and design workflows.
- Able to refine AI-generated material into original, cohesive and commercially usable creative work.
Creative + Strategic Thinking
- Strong visual sensibility with excellent typography, composition, colour and layout skills.
- Able to translate brand strategy, campaign objectives and audience insights into effective visual ideas.
- Strong conceptual thinking, supported by clear design rationale.
- Able to build complete visual systems rather than focusing only on individual assets.
- Comfortable exploring multiple creative directions before recommending a solution.
- Able to interpret brand guidelines thoughtfully and identify when they should be followed, extended or challenged.
- Balances originality with brand relevance, audience needs and commercial objectives.
- Maintains a high level of craft and consistency from concept development through to final execution.
Experience + Background
- At least 5 years of professional experience in brand design, campaign design, art direction or a related creative field.
- Agency or design studio experience preferred.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating relevant commercial work across brand identities, campaign concepts, key visuals and design systems.
- Experience developing work across multiple channels and formats.
- Able to explain your role, creative thinking and contribution to the projects shown in your portfolio.
- Able to manage project-based assignments independently with minimal supervision.
- Comfortable presenting work and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
