Senior Network Engineer

Location: Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru

Working Days: Monday to Friday

Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Flexible Working Hours)

About the Role

Our client, a leading British-based educational institution in Iskandar Puteri, Johor Bahru, is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to join its IT team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the management, configuration, maintenance, monitoring, and troubleshooting of enterprise network infrastructure, including wireless networks, switching, structured cabling, network authentication, and security systems.

The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Cisco and Palo Alto technologies, together with excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Key Responsibilities

Wireless Network

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) and Cisco Access Points.
• Troubleshoot wireless connectivity, performance, speed, and coverage issues.
• Monitor network performance and alerts using Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
• Perform regular configuration backups and security patching.

Network Switching

• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco core, distribution, access, and Top-of-Rack (ToR) switches.
• Monitor network performance and alerts using Cisco Prime Infrastructure.
• Perform regular configuration backups and security patching.

Network Cabling

• Identify and troubleshoot faulty copper and fiber cable runs.
• Coordinate and supervise cabling vendors during troubleshooting and repair activities.
• Provide technical guidance and ensure vendor work meets the required standards.

Network Security

• Manage authentication and authorization for campus Wi-Fi, guest Wi-Fi, network equipment administration, and remote access VPN.
• Configure and maintain Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
• Configure and maintain security policies and rules on Palo Alto and Cisco Firepower firewalls.
• Maintain Access Control Lists (ACLs) across LAN devices.
• Perform regular configuration backups and security patching.

Documentation and Technical Support

• Maintain accurate network infrastructure inventory and configuration documentation.
• Maintain records of network changes and infrastructure updates.
• Manage support cases, vendor coordination, and warranty claims.
• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), technical documentation, and How-To guides for users and internal IT teams.
  

Skills and Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems (MIS), or a related discipline.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in network engineering or IT infrastructure.
• Strong hands-on experience with Cisco networking technologies.
• Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto firewalls.
• Good knowledge of network security, wireless networking, switching, and enterprise network infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proactive, adaptable, and committed to continuous learning.
• Excellent communication and critical-thinking skills.
• Good command of written and spoken English.
