Job Description
We are seeking an experienced
Assistant Chief Engineer
to support the management of a hotel Engineering & Maintenance Department.
The successful candidate will assist in leading the Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance teams and ensure the safe, efficient and sustainable operation of hotel facilities and engineering systems. The role also supports crisis management, regulatory compliance, engineering projects, energy management and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance teams.
Develop, implement and monitor preventive maintenance programmes covering guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house facilities and critical engineering systems.
Oversee the Building Management System (BMS) to optimise system efficiency and energy performance.
Support sustainability initiatives, including achieving and maintaining BCA Green Mark certification.
Monitor electricity, water and gas consumption and implement cost-effective energy and water conservation measures.
Ensure appropriate waste-management and environmental practices are maintained.
Conduct regular inspections to identify maintenance requirements, potential hazards and opportunities for improvement.
Respond to emergencies such as power outages, fire alarms and equipment failures, and support crisis-management activities.
Ensure emergency systems, including backup generators, fire-protection systems and emergency lighting, remain operational and ready for use.
Manage departmental operating expenses and capital expenditure relating to equipment upgrades, engineering projects and energy-efficiency initiatives.
Coordinate with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure compliance with workplace safety, environmental and statutory requirements.
Prepare reports relating to audits, energy savings, sustainability performance and Green Mark progress.
Train and mentor Duty Engineers, Technicians and other engineering team members.
Promote energy-saving practices, sustainability awareness and emergency preparedness within the department.
Work closely with hotel management and other departments to support operational requirements.
Deputise for the Director of Engineering when required and represent the department during audits, inspections and management meetings.
Requirements
Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or an equivalent discipline.
Minimum
5–7 years of relevant hotel engineering or facilities management experience
.
At least
2 years of leadership or supervisory experience
.
Strong technical knowledge of building systems and preventive maintenance planning.
Good knowledge of energy-management and conservation practices.
Familiarity with the
BCA Green Mark framework
and sustainability requirements.
Experience leading and supervising Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance teams.
Strong troubleshooting, crisis-management and decision-making capabilities.
Good communication, interpersonal and stakeholder-management skills.
Knowledge of workplace safety, fire safety and applicable statutory requirements.
Able to work on
rotating shifts, including night shifts, weekends and standby duties
as required.
