Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Assistant Design Manager to support the Technical Manager in overseeing the Design/Technical Department and ensuring the successful delivery of structural and precast concrete design activities.

The successful candidate will oversee and guide Design Engineers, BIM Modelers and Drafters in the preparation and checking of structural designs, shop drawings, erection drawings and reinforcement detailing for RC and precast concrete structural elements.

This role requires close coordination with clients, consultants, main contractors and internal teams, including Production, Planning and QA/QC, to ensure designs are practical, constructible and aligned with project specifications, manufacturing capabilities and site requirements.

The ideal candidate should have strong structural engineering knowledge with 5–10 years of relevant experience in RC structural works, preferably combined with experience in precast concrete design and construction.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Technical Manager/Technical Director in overseeing the Design/Technical Department and managing the workload of Design Engineers, BIM Modelers and Drafters.
• Plan and coordinate design activities in accordance with project schedules and site progress.
• Review and check structural designs, shop drawings, erection drawings and reinforcement detailing for RCC and precast concrete works.
• Provide technical guidance, sketches and design solutions to Design Engineers, BIM Modelers and Drafters.
• Oversee the design and detailing of RC and precast structural elements, including beams, columns, wall panels, slabs, staircases and other structural components.
• Liaise with external consultants, including Architects, C&S and M&E consultants, to obtain required design information and resolve technical discrepancies.
• Identify missing or incomplete design inputs and follow up with relevant parties to ensure timely submissions.
• Review and optimize designs based on project requirements, construction methodology, sequencing, production capabilities and site constraints.
• Coordinate with clients and consultants to obtain necessary approvals for design and drawing submissions.
• Work closely with Production, Planning and QA/QC teams to ensure designs are practical and aligned with manufacturing and site requirements.
• Ensure drawings and design deliverables comply with relevant design codes, standards, project specifications and client requirements.
• Liaise with main contractors and project teams to investigate and resolve RCC and precast-related technical issues at project sites.
• Provide technical input and assist in developing Method Statements (MoS) for RCC/precast rectification and repair works where required.
• Support the Technical Manager in monitoring design progress, identifying potential issues and ensuring timely completion of deliverables.
• Perform other technical and design-related duties as assigned by management.

Requirements & Skills

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering.
• 5–10 years of relevant experience in RC structural works, structural design or related construction projects.
• Experience in precast concrete structural design and construction will be highly advantageous.
• Prior Singapore working experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of RC structural design, analysis, reinforcement detailing and construction practices.
• Proficiency in structural design software such as STAAD, ETABS, MIDAS or equivalent.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or BIM software such as Tekla Structures and Allplan.
• Good knowledge of relevant structural design codes and standards, including Eurocode, BS or applicable local standards.
• Experience in preparing and checking structural drawings, shop drawings, erection drawings and reinforcement detailing.
• Strong understanding of constructability, construction sequencing and site requirements.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to coordinate with consultants, clients, contractors and internal teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while providing effective guidance and support to the design team.
