Chartering Manager – Dry Bulk

We are working with an established dry bulk shipping organisation looking to appoint an experienced Chartering Manager to join its commercial team in Singapore.

The role will focus on developing and growing third-party dry bulk business, with particular emphasis on the Handysize, Supramax and Ultramax markets. The successful candidate should have a strong dry bulk operating background, with experience originating cargoes, sourcing tonnage and managing commercial positions. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who understands both the cargo and tonnage sides of the market and is comfortable developing new business rather than simply managing an existing book.

Responsibilities

• Develop and grow the third-party operating book by originating cargoes and sourcing suitable tonnage across the Handysize, Supramax and Ultramax markets.
• Originate new cargo opportunities with charterers, traders and other cargo interests.
• Source and manage suitable tonnage to support the operating book.
• Match cargo requirements with available tonnage and identify cargo opportunities for open vessels.
• Evaluate voyage and time-charter opportunities, including voyage economics, freight calculations and commercial risk.
• Negotiate freight, charter-party terms and other commercial conditions with counterparties.
• Manage vessel and cargo positions across relevant trade routes and markets.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with charterers, traders, shipowners, operators and brokers.
• Monitor freight markets, cargo flows and tonnage availability to identify commercial opportunities.
• Work closely with operations and other internal teams to ensure smooth voyage execution and commercial performance.
• Manage commercial exposure with a strong focus on profitability and risk.
• Contribute to the continued growth and development of the dry bulk operating business.

Required Skills

• Strong experience within dry bulk chartering.
• Good exposure to the Handysize, Supramax and Ultramax markets.
• Proven ability to originate and develop third-party cargo business.
• Strong understanding of tonnage sourcing, voyage economics and commercial risk.
• Established network across charterers, traders, shipowners, operators and brokers.
• Commercially driven with a strong business-development mindset.
• Strong negotiation and relationship-management skills.
• Able to work independently while collaborating closely with operations and other commercial teams.
