Role Summary

We are looking for a Trainee to join our Sale & Purchase team in Singapore. You will work alongside our experienced Brokers and carry out various tasks as outlined in the description below. The ideal candidate will have some experience within shipbroking, and have strong interpersonal skills, with a driven and self-motivated approach, and the ability to work in a dynamic commercially focused broking environment.

What you’ll be doing

• Support the day-to-day activities of the Brokers on the Sale & Purchase desk.
• Manage internal data flow of key market information.
• Maintain databases and prepare market information and reports for colleagues and clients.
• Assist with marketing opportunities to colleagues and clients.
• Assist with preparation and execution of Sale & Purchase contracts.
• Maintain a thorough knowledge of all relevant contract forms.
• Be aware of the strategic direction of the desk’s key clients.
• Build and nurture strong relationships with existing clients and proactively seek out new client relationships, in particular in China.
• Demonstrate understanding of key shipping markets and trends.
• Demonstrate understanding of key technical concepts of shipping.
• Help to field queries and establish and maintain effective relationships internally and externally.
• Attend meetings and events where required, including abroad.
• Additional / ad hoc duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

Other requirements

• A Degree in Maritime or a related discipline will be highly regarded
• Fluency in English and Mandarin

• Proactive, and looks for opportunities to add value
• Numerate and excellent presentation skills
