SJ Group Hiring! Full Time Principal Engineer in - Ricebowl

We are looking for an experienced and capable Principal Engineer who will perform the role of Project Manager to join our Construction & Management Unit (CMU) and lead the delivery of major coastal, marine and infrastructure projects in Singapore.

The successful candidate will be appointed as Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager, depending on project requirements. The role involves leading multidisciplinary teams, managing clients and stakeholders, and overseeing the technical, contractual and operational aspects of project delivery.

This position is suitable for engineers with strong project experience who are ready to take ownership of project outcomes and lead projects through planning, design, tender and construction stages.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, coordination and delivery of major construction projects or programmes, ensuring consistent delivery across all projects under SJ management.
• Perform the role of Project Manager or Deputy Project Manager, as assigned.
• Manage multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers and site supervisory personnel.
• Oversee project performance in relation to safety, quality, cost, programme and technical requirements.
• Manage day-to-day project activities and coordinate with clients, contractors, consultants, authorities and other stakeholders.
• Lead the review and resolution of complex technical, construction, interface and contractual issues.
• Review key technical submissions, design proposals, method statements, shop drawings and project documentation.
• Monitor project progress, cashflow, material deliveries and key project risks.
• Oversee contract administration matters, including progress claims, variations, extension-of-time submissions and contractual correspondence.
• Lead site meetings, technical discussions and stakeholder coordination meetings.
• Oversee contractor and subconsultant performance, procurement and deliverables.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, contractual, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
• Guide engineers and site staffs, and support team development and capability building.
• Lead or contribute to tender preparation, tender evaluation and project management proposals.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline recognized by relevant professional bodies (e.g. BCA, IES, ACES, PE Board); professional engineer registration preferred.
• Minimum eight years of relevant experience in engineering design, construction, project management or project delivery.
• Relevant experience in at least one coastal reclamation, marine, geotechnical, structural or major infrastructure project.
• Demonstrated experience in managing projects, major work packages or multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of construction management, technical coordination and contract administration.
• Sound technical judgement and ability to resolve complex project, site and contractual issues.
• Experience in managing clients, contractors, consultants, government agencies and other project stakeholders.
• Strong leadership, communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently, make informed decisions and take ownership of project outcomes.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Professional Engineer registration, Chartered Engineer status, project management certification or relevant site supervision accreditation will be an advantage.
• Experience in soil improvement, reclamation, geotechnical instrumentation, marine structures, revetments, drainage or slope protection works will be an advantage.
