Job purpose:

As a Senior Sybase ASE/IQ Database Administrator, you will be a part of a growing international team based in Kuala Lumpur Center. We are seeking candidates with wide range of expertise and skills in Sybase ASE and IQ database support such as day-to-day administration, performance tuning, monitoring, Backup/restore and SQL programming know-how. You will be mentoring other database administrators sharing your expertise and work in a big database team.

Key activities:

• Database Administration support with main focus on Sybase ASE and IQ databases.
• Database Maintenance, housekeeping, troubleshooting.
• Identify and resolve database performance issues, including tuning SQL queries, optimizing indexing, and implementing necessary database changes.
• Incident, problem and change management of database-related incidents and problems, both in collaboration with other technical teams.
• Provide operational support, including capacity planning, system performance analysis, and resource utilization monitoring.
• Develop and maintain documentation related to database administration procedures, configurations, and troubleshooting steps.
• Installation, configuration and lifecycle migrations/upgrades and patch management
• Conduct ongoing monitoring and proactive management of database systems to ensure high availability and performance.
• Support database backup and recovery activities, ensuring appropriate backup strategies and disaster recovery plans are in place.
• T-SQL database programming
• Unix/Linux, PHP, python, shell scripting
• Participate in an on-call rotation schedule to ensure 24/7 availability and response to critical incidents.
• implement and maintain Sybase ASE/IQ disaster recovery and high availability solutions.
• Ensure compliance with data protection regulations.

Formal education:

• Official acknowledged university / college qualifications
• Certified corresponding post education or training in Sybase ASE/IQ database administration areas.

Qualifications/Skills

Essential Skills

Sufficient and proven experience in PostgreSQL database administration in particular:

• At least 10 years of experience working in Sybase ASE/IQ database administration
• Administration, backup/recovery and Monitoring
• problem analysis resolution and error debugging including skills in raising support requests with vendors.
• database performance tuning (configuration related and application code tuning)
• database installation and configuration including patching
• profound skills in Sybase Replication Server administration
• backup and recovery, cloning and duplication
• data transfer/extract features for Sybase ASE/IQ
• space management analysis and object reorganization
• database patching and migrations
• database user management (authorisation and authentication)
• analysis of database performance reports
• Advanced Unix/Linux shell scripting, PHP or Python programming skills
• T-SQL database programming
• Comprehensive knowledge in database security.

Additional preferred Skills (technical, methodology and business):

• Knowledge of another database technology: PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Redis Cache is a plus.
• Experience in software methodology, processes and quality assurance
• knowledge in the area of IT security
• Profound interest in new technologies and self-motivated troubleshooting
