JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a qualified and competent Electrical Chargeman (A0) to support the safe operation, maintenance, and supervision of electrical installations within an oil & gas / petrochemical plant environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for electrical operation, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, isolation and switching activities, as well as ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, electrical safety procedures, and site regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate, control, inspect and maintain electrical installations safely in accordance with the scope of competency under the Chargeman A0 Certificate of Competency (CoC).
• Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
• Carry out inspection, testing, troubleshooting and rectification of electrical faults to minimize downtime and ensure continuous plant operation.
• Perform electrical isolation, switching and restoration activities in accordance with approved procedures.
• Work with and understand electrical equipment including:
• LV Switchgear
• MCCB
• ACB
• Motors
• Transformers
• Generators
• Electrical distribution networks
• Monitor electrical system performance and identify abnormalities or potential failures.
• Respond promptly to electrical faults, breakdowns and emergency situations.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, switching operations and equipment status.
• Supervise electrical technicians, contractors and other personnel involved in electrical works.
• Control or participate in Permit to Work (PTW) and Electrical Isolation Certificate (EIC) processes, where applicable.
• Ensure all electrical activities are carried out in compliance with statutory requirements, approved procedures and site safety standards.
• Identify electrical hazards and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Apply electrical safety practices, emergency response procedures and basic first-aid practices.
• Coordinate with engineers, operators and maintenance teams to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives relating to electrical reliability, safety and maintenance.
• Perform other electrical-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.

REQUIREMENTS

• Possess a valid Chargeman A0 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).
• Registered as a Competent Person under the applicable requirements of the Electricity Regulations 1994.
• Conversant with the safe operation and control of electrical installations within the scope of A0 competency.
• Good knowledge of LV electrical systems and equipment such as switchgear, MCCB, ACB and motors.
• Competent in:
• Electrical isolation and switching
• Electrical troubleshooting
• Preventive and corrective maintenance
• Electrical inspection
• Fault response and rectification
• Good understanding of electrical safety practices and emergency response.
• Basic first-aid knowledge is an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, operators, technicians and contractors.
• Good teamwork and site coordination skills.
• High level of safety awareness, particularly within an oil & gas / petrochemical / plant environment.
• Physically fit and willing to work in a plant/site environment.
• Willing to work shifts, overtime, standby or during shutdown/turnaround activities when required.

EXPERIENCE

• Relevant experience in electrical operation and maintenance, preferably within:
• Oil & Gas
• Petrochemical
• Refinery
• Chemical Plant
• Power / Utilities
• Industrial Plant
• Plant Maintenance / Turnaround
• Experience in supervising electrical works, contractors and technicians will be an added advantage.
• Experience working under strict PTW, isolation, LOTO and electrical safety procedures is preferred.
