About the role
The Chemist is an individual contributor role within the R&D division, based at the Sherwin Selangor Plant. The role involves lab process management, problem-solving, customer support, and production support to ensure product quality and innovation.
Key responsibilities
- Maintain EHS and 6S responsibility in the lab with strong ownership of the working environment and adherence to R&D confidentiality principles
- Plan, implement and update formulation and lab process projects on a regular basis with independence and proactiveness
- Modify existing products or develop new products to meet customers' new requirements with well-organized project reports as output
- Communicate across technical, commercial and production boundaries to align on timeline and milestones with stakeholders
- Demonstrate lab process concept with right understanding of the consequence of upscaling to production
- Apply 6 sigma and problem-solving skills including problem definition, measurement, analysis, improvement and control
- Coordinate with global and regional analytical teams to identify root cause and support customer visits to understand product application and line parameters
- Run production introduce process (PI) to introduce changes to production and supervise pilot batches
- Support defective batch solutions, raw material shelf life extension, and product transfer as needed
- Share knowledge and experience to strengthen the Asia team's overall technical capability
About you
- Diploma, Bachelor's degree, or higher in Polymer Science, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
- 8-10 years of relevant experience in the coatings industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of coating technologies, including formulation, application, performance testing, and troubleshooting.
- Experience in one or more coating segments, such as packaging coatings, coil coatings, general industrial coatings, protective coatings, metal coatings, or wood coatings.
- Proven project management experience, including leading cross-functional projects, managing timelines, coordinating stakeholders, and driving product development or commercialization initiatives.
