What The Role Is
You will join the Central Banking & Devt Platforms (CBD) payment team as a Software Engineer responsible for ensuring technical quality and operational reliability of the MAS Electronic Payment System (MEPS+) and related payment processing systems.
The role focuses on code review, assessment and validation of security findings, oversight of test automation, enhancement-release verification, audit support and contingency preparedness.
What You Will Be Working On
- Code Review & Quality Assurance
- Code Review Gate: Conduct code reviews of internal and vendor enhancements/fixes. Review fixes and enhancements against approved designs and applicable quality and security standards, document findings, and recommend acceptance or remediation in accordance with the agreed governance process
- Security & Scan Validation: Lead weekly review of code scan findings (static analysis, security scanning). Assess impact; identify false positives; validate fixes. Review security findings from source code reviews and penetration tests; validate remediation.
- Technical Solution Review: Validate that technical solutions for new enhancements meet approved design, performance, and security requirements.
- Compliance and Contingency Planning: Develop Software Engineer task lists for contingency exercises and participate in the execution of relevant drills. Prepare and provide relevant technical information and evidence in response to audit requests.
- Testing & Test Automation
- Test Automation Maintenance: Maintain and enhance MEPS+ test automation scripts (Selenium/Watermelon). Revamp test suites as needed; add new test coverage; troubleshoot test failures; evolve automation framework.
- Release Verification: Verify MEPS+ enhancement releases (semi-annual) before production deployment.
- SLI/SLO Contribution: Work with operations and SRE to define system SLIs and SLOs (e.g., transaction latency, error rate, availability targets).
- Production Troubleshooting & Incident Response
- L2 Production Incident Response: Respond to production incidents. Investigate errors, exceptions, alerts, and system warnings. Troubleshoot issues; coordinate with vendors on urgent fixes; escalate when needed. Expected on-call rotation: [specify, e.g., 1 week per month].
- Error & Exception Analysis: Diagnose root causes of production issues. Provide detailed incident analysis; recommend fixes or escalation path.
- Post-Incident Review: Participate in post-incident reviews; capture learnings; recommend process improvements.
- Technical Specifications & Standards
- Code Quality Standards: Contribute to defining code review standards, testing requirements, and quality metrics for MEPS+.
What We Are Looking For
Core Technical Requirements
- Backend Development & Code Review: Proven experience designing and implementing Java applications. Strong Java, SQL, and shell scripting skills. Comfortable conducting code reviews against design specifications and security standards.
- Automated Testing: Hands-on experience with automated testing frameworks (Selenium, Watermelon, or similar). Understanding of testing strategies (unit, integration, functional, performance, security). Experience maintaining and evolving test automation frameworks.
- Production Support & Troubleshooting: Experience supporting production systems. Strong debugging and root-cause analysis skills.
- Security & Code Quality: Understanding of secure coding practices. Familiarity with code scanning tools and vulnerability assessment. Ability to evaluate and validate security findings.
- Enterprise Technologies: Hands-on experience with J2EE, JBoss EAP, SQL/Oracle Database, Git, shell scripting.
Important Experience
- Experience working on-call for production systems, incident triage and escalation.
- Experience defining and enforcing quality standards with strong testing discipline.
- Experience working with development teams, vendors, operations, Managing and prioritizing tasks.
- Experience with payment processing, securities settlement, or related financial systems.
- Familiarity with large-scale payment systems architecture and integration patterns.
- Understanding of modern backend architectures and API design principles.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes concepts
- Java Developer, AWS, or related certifications would be an advantage
