About Celerix Tech
Celerix Tech is building its semiconductor engineering presence in Penang, with a focus on advanced IC design and technology development.
As we expand our local engineering capabilities, we are looking for talented engineers who are interested in joining a growing team and contributing to the development of our semiconductor design platform and capabilities in Malaysia.
The Role
We are looking for a Physical Design Engineer (Backend Design) to join our engineering team in Penang.
The successful candidate will be involved in the physical implementation of advanced digital IC designs, working across the backend design flow from floorplanning and placement through clock tree synthesis, routing, timing closure and physical verification.
You will work closely with front-end design, verification and other engineering teams to achieve performance, power, area and manufacturability targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform RTL-to-GDSII physical design implementation for digital IC/SoC designs.
- Execute floorplanning, power planning, placement, Clock Tree Synthesis (CTS) and routing.
- Perform timing optimization and Static Timing Analysis (STA) to achieve timing closure.
- Analyze and optimize designs for PPA (Power, Performance and Area) targets.
- Perform signal integrity, congestion and physical design optimization.
- Support physical verification including DRC, LVS and related sign-off activities.
- Perform Engineering Change Order (ECO) implementation and timing closure.
- Work with front-end, DFT, verification and other design teams to resolve implementation and integration issues.
- Analyze physical design results, identify root causes and recommend appropriate design improvements.
- Support design methodology, flow development and continuous improvement of backend design processes.
- Prepare and maintain relevant technical documentation and design reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Microelectronics, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in ASIC/SoC physical design or backend implementation.
- Good understanding of the complete physical design flow from netlist to GDSII.
- Hands-on experience in floorplanning, placement, CTS, routing and timing closure.
- Knowledge of STA, signal integrity, power analysis and physical verification.
- Familiarity with industry-standard EDA tools from Synopsys, Cadence and/or Siemens EDA.
- Knowledge of scripting languages such as Tcl, Python, Perl and/or Shell scripting would be an advantage.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to work effectively in a collaborative and evolving engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with advanced-node ASIC/SoC implementation is an advantage.
- Experience with high-performance or low-power digital designs is preferred.
- Knowledge of multi-mode multi-corner (MMMC) analysis and timing closure is advantageous.
- Experience with physical verification and sign-off methodologies is preferred.
- Candidates with experience in semiconductor, fabless IC design or related technology environments are encouraged to apply.
Why Join Celerix Tech?
This is an opportunity to join Celerix Tech as we establish and grow our engineering presence in Penang, one of Malaysia's key semiconductor and technology hubs.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Be part of an engineering team being built from the ground up in Penang.
- Work on challenging semiconductor and IC design projects.
- Contribute directly to the development of our local engineering capabilities and design methodologies.
- Work in an environment where technical expertise, initiative and collaboration are valued.
- Grow together with the company as our Malaysia operations and engineering organization expand.
