Job Responsibilities:

• Manage and oversee the daily operation of the truck workshop.

• Plan, prioritize and assign repair, maintenance and servicing jobs to mechanics according to urgency and skill level.

• Monitor repair progress and ensure vehicles are completed within the expected timeframe.

• Diagnose complex mechanical problems and provide technical guidance to mechanics.

• Troubleshoot and repair heavy commercial vehicle systems, including diesel engines, gearbox, clutch, differential, braking and air systems, suspension, steering, electrical and related components.

• Inspect completed repairs and ensure workmanship meets company standards before vehicles are released.

• Reduce repeat repairs by identifying the root cause of vehicle problems and ensuring repairs are carried out correctly.

• Train and guide junior mechanics and ensure proper knowledge transfer from senior mechanics.

• Develop and enforce proper workshop SOPs, repair procedures and safety practices.

• Ensure all repair jobs are properly documented, including vehicle number, reported problem, diagnosis, repair performed, parts replaced and mechanic responsible.

• Plan and monitor preventive maintenance and servicing schedules to reduce vehicle breakdowns and downtime.

• Coordinate emergency breakdown and roadside repair activities when required.

• Check and control spare-parts requirements before ordering to prevent unnecessary purchases and wastage.

• Monitor workshop stock levels and ensure commonly used spare parts and consumables are available.

• Ensure replaced/old parts are properly identified and accounted for.

• Maintain proper control of workshop tools, diagnostic equipment and machinery.

• Ensure the workshop is kept clean, organized and safe at all times.

• Coordinate with external workshops, suppliers and parts vendors when repairs need to be outsourced.

• Monitor vehicle repair costs and identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary repair and maintenance expenses.

Requirements / Qualifications:

• Minimum SPM, SKM, vocational certificate or equivalent. Automotive/Heavy Vehicle technical qualification is preferred.

• Preferably at least 2–3 years of experience as a Senior Mechanic, Foreman, Workshop Supervisor or Workshop Manager.

• Strong knowledge of diesel engines and heavy commercial vehicle systems.

• Good troubleshooting knowledge of engine, gearbox, clutch, differential, braking/air systems, suspension, steering and electrical systems.

• Experience using vehicle diagnostic scanners and interpreting fault codes is an advantage.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

• Able to supervise, organize and manage a team of mechanics effectively.

• Able to train and develop junior mechanics.
