Company Overview

NACOS Marine delivers advanced navigation, automation, and control systems for vessels worldwide. Our integrated solutions help ship owners and operators improve safety, efficiency, and sustainability at sea. With proven reliability, innovative technology, and dedicated support, we enable smarter maritime operations. Let's shape the future of maritime technology together.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Project Engineer (m/f/d) Propulsion Control to join our engineering team. In this role, you will work on the design, engineering, testing, and commissioning of marine automation systems, with a focus on propulsion control and Dynamic Positioning.

You will work as part of an established project team, contributing to projects from technical clarification and system design through to Factory Acceptance Testing and onboard commissioning. The role also includes occasional service assignments, giving you exposure to systems already in operation.

This is a good fit for an engineer with a few years of automation experience who wants to broaden their expertise in marine systems and work both in-house and in the field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design and engineering of marine automation systems, including system descriptions, test protocols, and technical documentation
  • Develop and maintain project-specific PLC software and HMI applications
  • Test systems, subsystems, and functionalities throughout the engineering process
  • Support and participate in in-house and supplier Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT)
  • Carry out on-site commissioning of propulsion control and Dynamic Positioning systems, including international assignments
  • Participate in onboard acceptance tests and vessel trials
  • Perform occasional service activities, including troubleshooting, testing, adjustments, and calibration
  • Prepare service documentation and technical reports on completed work
  • Work professionally with shipyards, vessel owners, and crew during commissioning and service
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and cybersecurity procedures

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronics, Automation, Mechatronics, Maritime Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in automation engineering; experience in the marine or offshore sector is an advantage
  • Working knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming languages (Ladder Diagram, Structured Text, Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart)
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as MODBUS RTU/TCP, CANopen, RS485, or RS422
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and system documentation
  • Good understanding of sensors and industrial networks
  • Basic awareness of cybersecurity principles in an operational technology environment
  • Hands-on mindset, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong written and spoken English
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including work onboard vessels and at customer sites

Why choose us and why we'd choose you?

At NACOS Marine, you'll become part of a global organization developing innovative maritime technology solutions for customers around the world. You'll work alongside experienced engineering and project colleagues on complex marine automation projects, and gain exposure to the full lifecycle of a system through commissioning and service.

We value collaboration, ownership, curiosity, and continuous learning. We're looking for someone who combines solid technical skills with a hands-on approach and enjoys working both on projects and in the field.
