Role Description The Junior Town Planner role is a full-time, hybrid position based in Melaka, with flexibility for some work-from-home arrangements. The role involves supporting senior planners in preparing land use plans, development proposals, and urban design concepts aligned with local planning policies and UTM’s strategic objectives. Daily tasks include collecting and analyzing spatial and socio-economic data, assisting in community and stakeholder engagement activities, and preparing technical reports, presentations, and planning documentation. The Junior Town Planner will help review development applications, contribute to feasibility studies, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across architecture, engineering, and social sciences. The role also includes maintaining accurate planning records, using GIS and relevant planning tools, and participating in meetings with authorities, partners, and community representatives.

Qualifications

• Strong foundational knowledge of urban and regional planning, including land use planning, zoning principles, and sustainable development concepts.
• Proficiency with planning and mapping tools (e.g., GIS software), basic data analysis, and visualization of spatial information.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, planning documents, and presentations, and for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, manage time and tasks efficiently, and adapt to hybrid work arrangements.
• Bachelor’s degree in Town/Urban Planning, Urban Studies, Geography, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Awareness of Malaysian planning regulations, local authority processes, and community engagement practices (or willingness to learn).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and commitment to ethical, inclusive, and sustainable planning practices.
• Experience with report writing, basic project coordination, or internships in planning, local government, or consultancy environments is an advantage.
