Responsibilities

Job Scope

To drive the profitable growth and sustainability of the Engineering portfolio through sound underwriting judgment, technical expertise, portfolio management, and market engagement. The role is responsible for underwriting complex Engineering and Construction risks, managing portfolio performance, providing technical leadership on underwriting matters, and ensuring compliance with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, and governance requirements.


As a senior technical specialist, the incumbent serves as a subject matter expert for Engineering Insurance products, including Contractors' All Risks (CAR), Erection All Risks (EAR), Machinery Breakdown (MB), Contractors' Plant & Machinery (CPM), Electronic Equipment Insurance (EEI), and related Engineering lines. The role works closely with brokers, reinsurers, claims, risk engineering, and distribution teams to support business growth, optimize risk selection, and maintain underwriting profitability.



Main Responsibility


Portfolio Management & Underwriting Strategy

•Manage the overall Engineering portfolio and ensure sustainable profitability

•Drive portfolio growth within underwriting appetite and authority limits.

•Monitor portfolio performance, loss ratio, retention, and exposure accumulation

•Recommend portfolio actions and underwriting strategies to improve performance.



Complex Risk Underwriting & Referral Management

•Underwrite and approve large, complex Engineering risks within delegated authority.

•Assess CAR, EAR, MB, CPM, EEI, CECR, ALOP/DSU and other Engineering risks.

•Review technical documentation, project information and risk engineering reports

•Provide technical guidance on underwriting referrals and policy coverage matters.


Underwriting Governance & Technical Excellence

•Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, regulatory requirements and risk appetite.

•Monitor market trends, emerging engineering risks and industry developments.

•Participate in product enhancement and underwriting guideline reviews.

•Provide technical expertise to Claims, Risk Engineering and Distribution teams.


Qualification and Experience Requirement

Education

•Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Insurance, Risk Management or related discipline.

•Professional insurance qualifications (ACII, ANZIIF, AII, AMII or equivalent) will be an added advantage.


Experience

•Minimum 8-10 years of Engineering Underwriting experience.

•Proven experience underwriting large and complex engineering and construction projects.

•Strong exposure to facultative reinsurance placements and broker negotiations.

•Experience managing Engineering portfolio performance and profitability.
