JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a qualified and competent Electrical Chargeman (B0) to support the safe operation, maintenance, and supervision of electrical installations within an oil & gas / petrochemical plant environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe operation and control of electrical installations, including HV electrical systems, as well as preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting, isolation and switching activities. The role also requires strict compliance with statutory requirements, electrical safety procedures, PTW/EIC requirements and site regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate, control, inspect and maintain electrical installations safely in accordance with the scope of competency under the Chargeman B0 Certificate of Competency (CoC).
• Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance on electrical systems and equipment.
• Carry out inspection, testing, troubleshooting and rectification of electrical faults to minimize downtime and ensure continuous plant operation.
• Perform electrical isolation, switching and restoration activities in accordance with approved procedures and within the scope of competency.
• Operate and monitor electrical equipment and systems, including:
• HV Switchgear
• LV Switchgear
• MCCB
• ACB
• Transformers
• Generators
• Motors
• Electrical Distribution Networks
• Monitor electrical system performance and identify abnormalities, defects or potential equipment failures.
• Respond promptly to electrical faults, breakdowns and emergency situations.
• Conduct routine electrical inspections and ensure equipment remains in safe and reliable operating condition.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, switching operations, equipment status and electrical faults.
• Supervise electrical technicians, contractors and other personnel involved in electrical works.
• Control or participate in Permit to Work (PTW) and Electrical Isolation Certificate (EIC) processes, where applicable.
• Ensure electrical isolation, switching and maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures and safety requirements.
• Ensure all electrical activities comply with statutory regulations, applicable industry standards and site requirements.
• Identify electrical hazards and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Apply electrical safety practices, emergency response procedures and basic first-aid practices.
• Coordinate with engineers, operators and maintenance teams to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
• Support electrical reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other electrical-related duties as assigned by the supervisor or management.

REQUIREMENTS

• Possess a valid Chargeman B0 Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST).
• Registered as a Competent Person under the applicable requirements of the Electricity Regulations 1994.
• Conversant with the safe operation and control of electrical installations within the scope of B0 competency.
• Good knowledge and practical understanding of HV and LV electrical systems.
• Familiar with electrical equipment such as:
• HV Switchgear
• LV Switchgear
• MCCB
• ACB
• Transformers
• Generators
• Motors
• Distribution Systems
• Competent in:
• Electrical isolation and switching
• Electrical troubleshooting
• Preventive and corrective maintenance
• Electrical inspection
• Fault identification and rectification
• Good understanding of electrical safety practices, emergency response and safe working procedures.
• Basic first-aid knowledge is an advantage.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
• Good communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, operators, technicians and contractors.
• Good teamwork and site coordination skills.
• High level of safety awareness, particularly within an oil & gas / petrochemical / plant environment.
• Physically fit and willing to work in a plant/site environment.
• Willing to work shifts, overtime, standby or during shutdown/turnaround activities when required.

EXPERIENCE

• Relevant experience in electrical operation and maintenance, preferably within:
• Oil & Gas
• Petrochemical
• Refinery
• Chemical Plant
• Power / Utilities
• Industrial Plant
• Plant Maintenance / Turnaround
• Experience handling HV/LV electrical systems and switchgear will be highly advantageous.
• Experience in supervising electrical works, contractors and technicians will be an added advantage.
• Experience working under strict PTW, electrical isolation, LOTO and electrical safety procedures is preferred.
• Experience in shutdown/turnaround activities within an oil & gas or petrochemical facility will be an advantage.
