As we expand our footprint across the Malaysian corporate landscape, we are seeking a highly organized, commercially minded Tax Assistant Manager. This role blends high level technical tax expertise with operational control, administrative oversight, and financial management to drive the efficiency and profitability of our tax division.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tax & Advisory Management
- Compliance Oversight: Oversee and review tax computations, returns, and estimated tax payable for a diverse portfolio of clients, including corporate, association, partnership, sole proprietor and individual ensuring complian ce with current tax laws, regulations, orders, public rulings and guidelines published by the Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (IRBM).
- Advisory: Conduct technical research and draft quality advisory report covering corporate advisory and restructuring, wit hholding tax, real property gains tax, capital gains tax, stamp duty determination and exemption, and indirect tax (SST).
- Audit Advocacy: Represent clients strategically during IRBM tax audits and investigations, managing communication and drafting technic al rebuttal letters.
- Communication & Coordination: Coordinate and attend meetings with clients and relevant authorities including IRBM, RMCD, MITI, MIDA, Immigration Department of Malaysia and Valuation and Property Services Department (JPPH).
2. Administrative, Control & Operational Monitoring
- Workflow & Resource Allocation: Monitor team capacity and allocate compliance and advisory assignments effectively. Implement tracking mechanisms to ensure all statutory deadlines are met with zero operational bottl enecks.
- Quality Control & Risk Management: Establish and enforce internal check and balance procedures to eliminate technical errors before final manager/partner sign off by mitigating professional indemnity risks.
- Process Optimization: Continuously evalua te standard operating procedures (SOPs) within the tax department. Identify inefficiencies and recommend automated tools or streamlined workflows to cut operational waste.
- KPI & Performance Tracking: Monitor the performance and KPIs of professional and sup port staff, identifying training gaps and providing structured coaching to build a highly productive, self sufficient team.
3. Financial Management & Profitability Control
- WIP & Billing Management: Monitor Work in Progress (WIP) limits diligently. Ensure timely billing and assist partners in managing accounts receivable to optimize the firm's cash flow.
- Time Cost & Budget Control: Oversee the team s timesheet submissions and track actual hours spent against budgeted assignment fees.
- Profitability Optimiza tion: Ensure assignments are delivered cost effectively by balancing leverage to maximize recoverability and assignment profit margins.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor s Degree in Accounting Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline.
- Fully qualified or actively pursuing CTIM, ACCA, CPA Australia, MICPA, or ICAEW or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of Malaysian tax laws and regulations including corporate tax, withholding tax, real property gains tax, capital gains tax, transfer pricing, stamp duty and indirect taxes
- Tax agent license or in the process of obtaining tax agent license is an advantage.
- Minimum 4 to 6 years of progressive experience in tax compliance and advisory within an established accounting/tax firm.
- Proven experience leading small teams and managing operational/administrative workflows is highly advantageous.
- Strong leadership, management and communication capabilities with well drafting and presentation skills in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Proficiency in reading, writing an d conversing in Mandarin is an advantage.P
