Position Overview

The Senior Accountant – Operational Accounting is a permanent individual contributor role within Kelly's Controllership organization. The position sits within the Operational Accounting team and reports to an Operational Accounting Manager.

The role is responsible for supporting the end-to-end period-end close process across one or more operational accounting domains, including Balance Sheet, SG&A, and Payroll & Benefits accounting.

Key responsibilities include preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, supporting variance analysis, maintaining general ledger accuracy, and ensuring compliance with accounting policies and SOX requirements for North American legal entities.

The Senior Accountant will work closely with onshore managers, peer accountants, and Kelly's Global Finance Business Services (GFBS) shared services organization to execute an accurate, timely, and well-controlled monthly close.

This role also offers an opportunity to contribute to Kelly's ongoing finance transformation, including the implementation of Workday, expanded adoption of BlackLine, and the development of a more automated and efficient close process.

  • Resolve discrepancies and ensure close entries are based on complete and validated source data.
  • Escalate unresolved reconciliation items, data quality issues, and close risks to the onshore Manager with clear documentation and recommended resolution paths.

2. Analysis & Reporting

  • Investigate and explain material balance sheet and income statement fluctuations within assigned accounts.

3. Compliance, Controls & Audit

  • Maintain compliance with Kelly's accounting policies, internal controls, and SOX requirements.
  • Ensure journal entry approvals, reconciliation sign-offs, and supporting documentation requirements are consistently met.
  • Maintain BlackLine close tasks and reconciliation documentation to audit-ready standards.
  • Ensure supporting evidence is complete, organized, and readily accessible for internal and external audits.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by preparing:
  • Audit schedules

  • Document current-state processes and identify manual activities that may be suitable for automation.
