Position Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled
Equipment Technician to join our Equipment Engineering team in a laser manufacturing environment. The Equipment Technician will primarily be responsible for supporting the installation, setup, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and continuous improvement of manufacturing equipment.
The role is critical in ensuring equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently to support production requirements and minimize equipment downtime. While direct laser process engineering is not the primary responsibility of this position, the technician will support equipment used in laser and photonics manufacturing and work closely with Equipment Engineers, Process Engineers, Production, and other technical teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily equipment checks, preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.
- Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and production impact.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, vacuum, sensor, motor, and basic control-system issues.
- Support engineers in equipment installation, setup, commissioning, qualification, modification, and improvement activities.
- Support equipment calibration, Perform adjustment, component replacement, and functional verification.
- Monitor equipment performance and identify recurring failures and improvement opportunities.
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.
- Support continuous improvement to enhance equipment uptime, reliability, productivity, and quality.
- Maintain accurate maintenance, repair, equipment history, and spare-parts records.
- Follow established work instructions, safety requirements, quality standards, and good housekeeping practices.
- Coordinate with Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams to support manufacturing requirements.
Laser Manufacturing Support
- Support equipment used in laser, optical, photonics, and precision manufacturing processes.
- Assist with maintenance of laser-related manufacturing stations, precision motion systems, vacuum systems, cooling systems, and optical alignment hardware.
- Perform basic optical or mechanical alignment under engineering guidance.
- Follow applicable laser safety, ESD, cleanroom, contamination-control, and optical-component handling practices.
Qualifications
- Diploma, Higher Nitec/Nitec, or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, Precision Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Equipment maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Laser, photonics, optics, semiconductor, or precision manufacturing experience is an advantage but not mandatory.
- Good mechanical and electrical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Able to understand equipment manuals, technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Strong teamwork, safety, quality, and continuous improvement mindset.
- Willing to support production requirements, including shift work or overtime when required.
