Job Summary
The Junior Patch Management Engineer supports the testing, deployment, monitoring and remediation of security patches across Windows endpoints and IT infrastructure.
This role is suitable for candidates with at least one year of experience in desktop support, EUC support, system administration, infrastructure support or a related IT function who are interested in developing their career in patch management.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the deployment of operating system, security and application patches.
- Assist with monthly patching cycles and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Monitor patch deployment status and compliance across managed devices.
- Identify devices with missing or failed patches and perform basic remediation.
- Troubleshoot common patch installation and deployment issues.
- Support patch testing before deployment to the production environment.
- Coordinate with desktop, infrastructure, application and security teams.
- Update incidents, service requests and change records in the ticketing system.
- Prepare patch-compliance reports and provide regular status updates.
- Follow established change-management, security and operational procedures.
- Escalate complex deployment failures and technical issues to senior engineers.
- Maintain accurate records of patching activities, exceptions and remediation actions.
- Support vulnerability-remediation activities when required.
Requirements
- NITEC, Higher NITEC or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum one year of experience in IT support, desktop support, EUC support, infrastructure support, system administration or patch management.
- Basic working knowledge of Windows desktop or server operating systems.
- Basic understanding of software installation, Windows updates and security patching.
- Exposure to SCCM/MECM, WSUS, BigFix, Tanium, Microsoft Intune or a similar endpoint-management tool would be advantageous.
- Basic understanding of Active Directory, networking and IT security concepts.
- Experience using an incident, service-request or change-management system.
- Good troubleshooting, documentation and analytical skills.
- Able to follow technical procedures and complete assigned activities within timelines.
- Willing to learn patch-management tools and security-remediation processes.
- Able to work independently and collaborate with technical teams.
- Willing to support patching activities outside normal working hours when required.
Preferred Skills
- Experience supporting Windows endpoints in an enterprise environment.
- Basic PowerShell or scripting knowledge.
- Familiarity with ITIL or change-management processes.
- Exposure to vulnerability-management or security-compliance reporting.
