Key Responsibilities
System Installation, Customization & Maintenance
- Install, customize, and maintain the z/OS operating system and related subsystems on IBM mainframe hardware.
- Configure and manage mainframe hardware and system software to support business and application requirements.
- Apply system maintenance (SMP/E, PTFs, upgrades) and coordinate change/version upgrades with minimal disruption to production.
Operations, Availability & Service Continuity
- Monitor system health, batch and online workloads, and job scheduling to ensure services meet agreed
Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Support 24/7 production operations, including on-call / shift coverage for incident response as required by the client.
Z/OS IBM Mainframe Systems Engineer / Administrator
- Perform daily operational administration – system starts/restarts, IPLs, job monitoring, and console/automation event handling.
Performance, Capacity & Tuning
- Monitor CPU utilization, storage, buffer pools, and other system resources; tune the environment for optimal performance.
- Conduct capacity planning – track storage/resource usage trends and forecast future growth requirements.
Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery
- Schedule and verify system/data backups; maintain and test disaster recovery (DR) plans and procedures.
- Perform data/system restoration and recovery activities in the event of failure.
Security Administration
- Support security setup for new applications and systems – user authentication, access permissions, and audit logging.
- Work with RACF (or equivalent external security manager) for access control administration, in line with the mainframe security roles and responsibilities defined by IBM z/OS security practices.
Automation & Collaboration
- Configure and maintain automation tooling for routine operational tasks and event handling.
- Work closely with production control, application, network, and database specialist teams – system programming roles are often specialized (e.g., CICS, database, network, automation) in larger installations.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system failures, performance issues, and job abends; perform root-cause analysis.
Documentation
- Maintain accurate configuration records, operational runbooks, backup/recovery procedures, and compliance documentation.
Key Technical Requirements
- Z/OS experience – Major / Mandatory. Strong, hands-on z/OS systems programming / administration experience (installation, customization, maintenance, and operations support).
- COBOL experience – Minor / Preferred. Candidates with COBOL exposure may be proposed as an added advantage; this is not a strict requirement.
- Working knowledge of JCL, VSAM, and mainframe utilities.
- Exposure to RACF or equivalent security management tools is an advantage.
- Familiarity with performance monitoring, capacity planning, and backup/disaster recovery practices on z/OS.
Candidate Profile Summary
- Mid-Senior to Senior level mainframe professional – systems programmer / systems engineer with an operations & technical engineering leaning.
- Banking or non-banking industry background accepted.
- Comfortable with 24/7 production support environments and on-call rotations where applicable.
- Strong troubleshooting, analytical thinking, and documentation discipline.
- Available immediately or within 30 days' notice.
- Willing to work fully onsite

Pay: RM7,000.00 - RM15,000.00 per month
