Role summary

You’ll own Matchii’s engineering strategy, technical architecture, and engineering organization as we scale.

Working closely with the founders and product team, you’ll turn product vision into a scalable, reliable, AI-native platform — while building the engineering team, culture, and systems needed for long-term growth.

This is a hands-on leadership role: you’ll lead from the front, stay close to architecture and critical technical decisions, and build a high-performing engineering organization from the ground up.

What You’ll Do

• Define Matchii’s engineering strategy, architecture, and technical roadmap

• Build, lead, and scale the engineering team — including hiring, mentoring, and developing senior talent

• Own backend, data, infrastructure, and AI/agent architecture

• Establish engineering standards across development, testing, security, observability, and reliability

• Partner closely with founders and product leadership to translate business priorities into technical execution

• Build a high-ownership, high-velocity engineering culture

• Stay hands-on with critical systems and technical decisions when needed

What We’re Looking For

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant engineering leadership experience

• Experience as a VP Engineering, Head of Engineering, Engineering Director, founding engineering leader, or equivalent

• Strong backend and distributed systems background; Go, Python, or TypeScript

• Deep experience with PostgreSQL, APIs, cloud infrastructure, and production systems

• Experience building and scaling engineering teams in a startup or high-growth environment

• Strong product sense and business judgment — able to connect technology decisions to company outcomes

• Experience with AI/LLM, agent infrastructure, or AI-native products is a strong plus

• Builder mindset: comfortable moving between strategy, architecture, people, and execution
